Maternal legacy includes the beliefs, strengths, wounds, expectations, roles, and ways of loving that move through a maternal line.
Just like us, our mothers had protective systems. So did their mothers. Maternal legacy work does not require excusing harm. Understanding can help us reflect:
What did this response learn to protect?
What did it make possible—and what has it cost?
What do I want to keep, and what no longer needs to continue through me?
