STEM Learning Through Play! 🐅🦒

Today’s challenge was to use magnetic ties to attach our non-magnetic animals to the magnetic board. The children quickly discovered that some animals needed more support than others, leading to lots of experimenting and problem-solving!

This one simple activity covered so many developmental skills:
🖐️ Fine motor skills through twisting, wrapping, and fastening.
🧠 Critical thinking and problem-solving through trial and error.
➕ Early math by counting ties, comparing more vs. fewer, and exploring weight and size.
🔬 Science by investigating magnets, gravity, balance, and engineering solutions.
💬 Language as they explained their ideas and discoveries.
❤️ Confidence and perseverance as they kept trying until they found what worked.

It’s amazing how a simple invitation to play can build skills across so many developmental domains while the children think they’re just having fun! 💙🧲✨

COOPERATIVE PLAY IN ACTION!
Today the children worked together outdoors to build a shared structure using large blocks and crates. What looked like simple play was actually full of developmental learning. Cooperative play supports many important skills, and this activity gave them the perfect opportunity to practice them all!

Cooperative play is one of the richest forms of learning. It builds social skills, physical strength, problem-solving abilities, and confidence — all while the children are simply having fun working together!

We had our recertification for TRS last week and we are excited to announce that we again are 4 stars!!
It is a lot of extra work to achieve this but I know that the extra things we do are creating a warm, safe, supportive and nurturing environment for the children in our care and most importantly to thrive and help them achieve success in all aspects of learning!
