"When I was looking and sorting through the plethora of pictures I took at shad, I relized that I was focused on the people and not the scenery. The fieldtrips and views were nice but the experience was really about the community. I have realized that despite the stressful house projects and even the strepademic, I would not have asked for this month to go any other way. I can confidently say that I will miss every one of the 55 other SHADs and will keep the memories we created for a lifetime." - Tanson Lee, SHAD Memorial 2019

“After a month of attending lectures, extreme Rubik’s cubing, sleepless nights, and exploring the wonderful city of Thunder Bay later, I’m proud to have found my second family and home here at SHAD Lakehead 2019. We are too legit to quit!! That being said, I’m super grateful for an opportunity like this to learn and grow with my fellow SHADs, and the memories will last a lifetime!” - Hargun, SHAD Lakehead 2019

"I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend SHAD MUN-the best campus there is. The like-minded SHADs that I’ve met over the course of this month have challenged and inspired me like never before. I know that some of these memories and friendships will last a lifetime." - Katherine Jackson.

"SHAD - feels like we just started this month-long journey but it's unfortunately almost coming to an end. Still can't believe we visited one of the 4 corners of the Earth... still can't believe we're in Newfoundland!! Words just can't describe what SHAD does. Truly unforgettable. I've found my new home away from home." - David Walji, SHAD Memorial 2019

What is the most important think you have taken away from SHAD so far?

“The most important thing I have gotten out of Shad is the opportunity to meet extremely intelligent, different yet like minded people my age from all across Canada. Without the connections I have made here at Shad the experience would not be the same.” -Melissa Walters, SHAD Lakehead 2019

“While at Shad I’ve learned that there are so many unique people. It’s amazing to be here at Lakehead university for a month and get to know each of these individuals. For me, SHAD created an amazing environment where I have learned to go out of my comfort zone and do things that I otherwise would never do and not have to worry about being judged in the process.” -Ryan Carey, SHAD Lakehead 2019

“Thanks to SHAD I have been able to meet many amazing people who have restored my hope in the future of our society. Being surrounded by such inspiring people has allowed me to learn more about myself, and has encouraged me to continue pursuing success in all aspects of life.” -Sarah Lilley , SHAD Lakehead 2019

How has your experience been like at Western so far? ⁣

“SHAD Western has been a rollercoaster of an experience so far; the kind that terrifies you once at the very beginning, but once you are going up the track, excitement builds and then the ride from then on is full of unexpected twists and turns… in the best way possible."⁣

What has your favourite session been?⁣

“I ended up really enjoying the mechatronics workshop which was a complete surprise to me. Though I enjoy math to an extent, I’ve always considered myself a more life sciences and humanities oriented person. Going into the workshop and seeing all the robots, computers, and formulas was daunting and felt foreign; cut to half an hour later and I was having the time of my life while soldering a circuit board. I’ve been exposed to so many new ideas and experiences here, and I believe keeping an open mind is the only way to fully take advantage of everything at the program.” -Dhanishta Ambwani, SHAD Western 2019. ⁣

Lakehead SHADs just spent the past two days camping, hiking, and swimming in the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Pictured are three of our SHADs and a big dragonfly! “My favourite part of SHAD so far is definetly all of the new friends I'm making and the inside jokes and stuff being made. It really is starting to become a tight knit community that I feel lucky to be a part of!”

"Our strength does not come from ourselves, it comes from each other. No one is a rock, no one an island. SHAD not only brings 56 intelligent and talented individuals together, it also encourages collaboration. Our house projects, committee sessions, and seminars encourage teamwork, leadership, delegation and responsibility among SHADs. I look forward to the coming month." - Noah Limpert, Kazoo & Harmonica GOD, SHAD Memorial 2019
