Over the last several years, the search for new police chiefs has become a more inclusive and transparent process. Cities are now incorporating community surveys, public meetings, and other mechanisms to gather valuable feedback from citizens about the qualities they want in their police chief.

If you are interested in changing departments or becoming a police officer in Metro Atlanta, look no further than the Dunwoody Police Department. The City Council has continued its support of the department with another raise, has recently authorized five new positions, and is about to approve four public safety ambassadors.
At the Dunwoody Police Department, we believe in rewarding dedication and experience. With a starting salary of almost $ 60,000 for those with a high school degree and no experience, our generous scale for laterals ensures that your pay will increase based on your education and experience. If you have 10+ years of experience and a degree, your starting salary will be over $80,000, offering a promising path for career advancement. Your starting salary will be between those two numbers if your is less than 10+ years.
We are offering a $15,000 hiring bonus, and the City of Dunwoody will provide a $800-a-month housing stipend if you live there.

A mid-year pay increase of 4.25 percent for police and other city employees was approved by Dunwoody City Council in April and will go into effect on May 30. This is in addition to a raise last year averaging 14 percent for police officers, detectives, sergeants, and lieutenants. Since 2021, the City of Dunwoody has adjusted pay for police seven separate times. As a result, officers and detectives have seen pay increases of 44.8 percent.
In addition to competitive pay, the Dunwoody Police Department offers a competitive package of benefits that includes the following:
*Take-home vehicle program
*$15,000 signing bonus
*$800 a month housing stipend for living in the city limits
*100% city-paid employee medical coverage starting on the first day of work
*90% city-paid family medical coverage starting on the first day of work
*Employer retirement contribution up to 21.2%
*100% city-paid life insurance, AD&D, and short and long-term disability insurance
*Up to $4,000 tuition assistance annually
*15 paid holidays
*$2,500 in additional pay for SWAT operators
*$4,000 per year bonus for CID/K-9/Crime Response Team/Community Outreach
