TEA PARTY MEETING
Thursday, Sept. 17th, 2026

National Constitution Day is celebrated every year on Sept. 17 to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. It was taught in public schools until the mid 1970s. On this day, the Manistee Area Tea Party will host Greg Berg who will recite the Constitution of the United States of America, the Bill of Rights and those Amendments that followed with a brief reflection on each Amendment. The meeting will be held at the Bungalow Inn, with a 5:30pm social hour followed by the presentation at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome. Come learn more about our U.S. Constitution.

MATP meeting change of plans

We were just notified that our speaker for this Thursday’s, August 20 meeting can't make it because the Michigan Bureau of Elections and Secretary of State, Joselyn Benson, are challenging the random sample of the 750,000 petition signatures. The Citizens Only Vote team is challenging this decision and will be busy contacting the signatures in question. Kristin Colms, our guest speaker, is heading up this initiative and can't make our meeting. We will discuss this development and other problems they may run into trying to get COV on the ballot so the citizens of Michigan can vote on it.
We will also discuss other issues relevant to the upcoming mid-term election in November.

AUGUST TEA PARTY MEETING

MATP will have Kristin Combs from 'Citizen Only Vote' come speak to us about the Ballot Proposal that should be on the November Ballot this year. We'll be back at the Bungalow Inn, Manistee. Kristin will inform us of what is actually in the proposal and dispel some of the myths going around about it. Be sure to bring your questions. The meeting will be Thursday, August 20th at the Bungalow Inn, 1100 28th St US 31 South, Manistee and starts at 6:30pm with a social hour and optional dinner starting at 5:30pm. The public is cordially invited.

EARLY VOTING runs every day from Saturday, 7/25, through Sunday, 8/2, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM in Onekama at the Farr Center, 5283 Main Street, a short distance west of the Blue Slipper.

AUGUST 4th IN-PERSON VOTING at your township polling location runs from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM.

UPDATE on Tea Party Picnic

With the air quality being what it is, the steering committee has decided to scale back the picnic. We won't be having a speaker but for those willing to brave the conditions we will still hold the potluck picnic. We certainly understand that health issues will keep some of you at home.

This is a first - we've had cold and wind and rain that people have braved to be there. But never before the smoke.

Manistee Area Tea Party Annual Potluck Picnic

Time: 5:00 pm

Where: Lions Pavilion, First Street Beach, Manistee.

Speaker: Julie Herringa, Library Executive Director, will tell us about all the things the Library has to offer. It's not your Grandfather's Library any more!

Sloppy Joe will be available and we ask everyone to bring a dish to pass and your own beverage. It can be a favorite dinner entrée, side dish, dessert, or snacks.

It is the evening and by the Big Lake so dress accordingly. And you might want to bring a lawn chair, if you have one, for more comfortable seating than a picnic table.
