If you’re bored… apparently I’m a podcast guest now. 🎙️

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with Hollye Briggs and Michael Dexter from BCEN for an episode of the BCEN & Friends Podcast.

We talked about emergency nursing, paramedicine, the relationship between EMS and the emergency department, self-care, lessons learned over nearly four decades in emergency care, and why board certification matters.
The episode is titled “Translating the Journey Between the Doors” — a conversation about understanding the whole patient journey, from the initial 911 call through the doors of the emergency department and beyond.

Today... Was a great day

Today, Rapid Response Training was a sponsor for the North Shore BEEFs slider eating contest at Game On at Fenway Park. This wasn't just a contest though, it was the real deal, a Major League Eating sanctioned event. You know, like the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest every 4th of July at Coney Island.

We were the Beef Response Team, standing by, you know, just in case, along with our friends from Beauport Ambulance.

Although the world's top competive eater Joey Chestnut wasn't available, some of the world's top eaters were on hand. #2 world ranked eater Pat Bertoletti edged out #4 ranked Geoff Espar, 46-43 in 10 minutes. #6 Max Stanford finished 3rd with 26.

Was it gross, especially standing that close to the 'splash zone'? Yes... But it was also an absolute blast and we got a chance to meet some amazing people.

For those of you not familiar, a North Shore Beef Super 3 Way is a sandwich - thin sliced, rare and warm, covered with James River BBQ sauce, mayo, American cheese (on the bottom) on a nicely griddled onion roll. Years ago, when the National Registry moved EMS recertification into the NCCP model, something important happened. Safety stopped being something that was simply assumed and became something we were specifically expected to learn about.

Online education isn’t the problem. What we’ve done with it might be. We’ve gotten remarkably good at documenting that nurses and EMS clinicians completed their education. I’m less convinced we’ve gotten equally good at proving they learned something they can use when a real patient is in front of them.

Excited to be in Las Vegas this week at BCEN Learn Live!

There's always something new to learn in emergency nursing, and I believe the best educators are lifelong students. I'm looking forward to bringing back new ideas, updated evidence, and practical tips to use in my own practice and share with the nurses, paramedics, and students I teach.

Always learning. Always improving. Safe travels to everyone attending!

Today, we pause to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

While many of us spend time with family, enjoy cookouts, or celebrate the unofficial start of summer, this day is ultimately about honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage gave us the freedoms we enjoy every single day — freedoms that are often easy to take for granted.

At Rapid Response Training, we also recognize the many veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, and military families in our community who continue to serve others with dedication and sacrifice.

Today, we remember.
Today, we reflect.
Today, we give thanks.

Please take a moment to honor those who never made it home.
