About Us
Healthy Delaware County (formerly Delaware County Drug Abuse Coalition (DDAC) is working to establish an environment that shifts away from the community tolerance of underage substance use and adult substance abuse as acceptable behaviors. A prevention system consists of the prevention agency, public health, law enforcement, school districts, behavioral health, treatment, faith organizati
ons, juvenile court services and social services agencies all working together. They provide families and individuals the resources and education they need in order to start making lifestyle changes involving the tolerance of and the use/abuse of alcohol, to***co, prescription, over-the-counter and illicit drugs. Consequences of underage substance use and adult substance abuse may consist of law violations, risk of dependency, decline in academic and sport performance and decline in family dynamics. By bringing the knowledge, experiences and expertise of DDAC members and other prevention system partners, we can begin to create positive change. By assessing the needs in the county, building capacity and resources, creating a plan to make changes, implementing the necessary strategies and evaluating how prevention efforts are working, the desired outcomes can be reached. Delaware County Drug Abuse Coalition identifies and addresses issues related to substance use and abuse in Delaware County; with a focus on youth-related strategies, issues and activities. History
The Delaware County Drug Abuse Coalition formed in 2000 due to community members becoming concerned about the social issues in the county, substance abuse amongst teens, and the increase in methamphetamine amongst children and families of the county. Accomplishments
Passed a county-wide Social Host Ordinance
Worked with city councils to determine best practices for alcohol use in public parks
Provided education and trainings to parents, youth, and retailers
Participated in health fairs and community events
