"Why are you wasting your time worrying about what horses are doing when you're a goddamned unicorn?"
I know what you’re thinking, who was the lyrical gangster, the bard of our day, the PROFESSIONAL who dropped this gem.

It was me you guys. I am that brilliant creature.

During a coaching session a client was talking about the work that she was doing, and that she felt like her friends and family weren’t acknowledging the leaps she was making in building her business. It really hurt her.

This happens a lot when you put yourself out there and try something no one around you has done before, it can be shocking for people.
You see, they have spent a lot of their lives telling themselves that the types of things that you are doing are too risky, that it would never be successful, that they have too much to lose - these excuses have stopped them from being brave enough to try.

But, instead of looking up at you, and being inspired by you flying through the sky like the living rainbow that you are, they keep their heads down and keep eating grass. Not because you aren't amazing, but because seeing you successfully chase your dreams forces them to reflect in a way that isn't comfortable.

This is a rarely mentioned challenge in doing something outside of the norm. Its happened to me too many times for me to count. Its painful, and lonely but it is also really illuminating!

If there are people in your life who aren’t cheering you on as you work towards your goals here is what you can do:
✨Mentally acknowledge that because of certain limitations they aren’t able to support you right now
✨Remind yourself of why this dream is so important to YOU
✨Finally, don't put any weight into what they think of you - they don't understand you, and that's ok!

Now that you’ve stopped worrying about the horses, start looking for other unicorns like yourself! Or, look for horses who want to be unicorns. Start cheering them on, support them, mentor them, acknowledge them, get out there and connect with them. These are the people whose opinions matter, because they understand what it's like to believe in something so much that you suddenly learn how to fly. 🦄🌈

Ever heard the term, seldom right, but never in doubt?
When it comes to outdoor enterprises, that could not be more true about me. When it comes to stuff I actually know, imposter syndrome creeps in hard - but ask me which way is East, I will answer you with the self assurance of an Eagle Scout, all while I am 100000% wrong.
This past weekend's outdoor escapade was no exception. I decided to go hiking up to some beautiful waterfalls by myself on Saturday. I brought an extra layer in case it got “cold cold” (like a PROFESSIONAL), threw on my sunglasses and strapped on my hiking shoes.
What I didn’t realize until I got to the parking lot was that the snow and ice hadn’t heard it was spring and were still around, by I let my unfounded confidence lead, and I decided that I would be TOTALLY fine on my hike. I was smart, capable and I had like 3 granola bars - the world was mine! Amazingly, I was able to traverse over the snowy icy parts with only a little bit of slippage. By the time I got to the top, I was ready to get back to the parking lot and get my hands on the sandwich I was going to have for lunch.
Looking down at the icy trail I had just come up - it hit me. Now, I had to go back down.
Has that ever happened to you? You get yourself into a situation where your bravery outpaces your capability? Where you’ve been able to muscle your way to where you need to be, but just when you’re out of gas is when you actually have to double down?
That’s where a lot of us are right now. We’ve fought our way through the last year, thinking that once we get to a certain point - we’ll be ok - we’ve gotten to our destination, eaten our granola bar, and then realized we still have miles to go to get to safety, and a sandwich.
As I looked down at the icy mountain, I realized there was no amount of grit, hustle or strength that would overcome these slippery trails. So, instead fighting against it - I leaned into the fall.
That’s right my friends, I slid down a good bit of that mountain, on my butt, like a lady. If life throws you an icy trail this week, lean in. Hopefully you’ll end up like me: bruised but not broken, amazed at the strength it takes to just let go.

The best part of my job as a life coach is being present with my clients as they take action on their dreams. As a person and as a coach I try to ‘drink my own champagne’ and emulate what I advocate!
🌅
I pushed myself to be brave a few months ago, and decided to really invest in myself, my brand and my business and I worked with the amazing .things.studio to create this beautiful new brand, and joyfulAF website! (link in bio!)
🌅
As always, I’d love to hear what you think, and I’m curious: what do you want to be brave about this year? Comment below!

Real Talk: I’m afraid of a lot things. Small spaces, change, any “scary” movie that has higher than a PG rating, heights and the list goes on and on.

This fact discouraged me from doing stuff that made me feel that wiggly feeling in my belly until I read this quote: “Courage is like a muscle, we strengthen it by use”

Realizing that by engaging in one small courageous act every day that I could become braver made it easier to build up my courage.

That’s why I’m so proud of this picture, 15 years ago I would have never stepped to the edge of this cliff and let myself take in all of this beauty. I would have been white knuckling a the trunk of tree as far away from that drop as possible! Because I used my courage muscle in small ways every day, I was brave enough to walk to the edge, and strong enough to know it wouldn’t let me fall.

+GIVEAWAY+

Thirteen years.

It has been thirteen years since my body was crushed by a truck.

Thirteen years since I was told I wasn’t going to live, that I would never walk again, and that I shouldn’t expect to live a normal life.

Thirteen years since I felt totally out of control.

Thirteen years since the nights when I was too terrified to sleep, panicked about my future.

Thirteen years since I contemplated ending my life just to make the pain that was raging in my body to stop.

It was also, thirteen years ago that I made a decision.

I decided that I wasn’t going to waste this pain. I decided that I had been given a second chance at life for a reason.

I decided that it didn’t matter what the doctors said - what mattered was what I KNEW. In that moment, what I knew was that I wasn’t going to let my light be extinguished without a fight.

Thirteen years ago I had one goal in mind - to take what I learned from this pain and transform it into something I could share - something that could help other people.

I used a small bites and little victories mindset, and slowly, thoughtfully and joyfully thirteen years ago, began to rebuild my life.

Thirteen years later, I’ve published a best selling memoir, I’ve given motivational talks for Fortune 500 companies across the country, and I’ve spent over a 1000 hours giving leadership and life coaching to people as they took the steps to turn their awesome dreams into an even better reality.

With lucky number thirteen on my mind, I have decided to give the gift of 13 FREE coaching sessions to anyone who needs support in:
Getting unstuck
Finding their why
Overcoming perfectionism
Creating a roadmap from where they are, to where they’d like to be.

What my Coaching clients see vs. Reality

Nothing to see here folks! Just a sink with a dish rack in it surrounded by fake flowers from Ikea, and my body *perfectly* positioned to cover the sink 😂
I have never been less expressive with my body in my life!

High five to everyone out there making it work, proud of you sweethearts 💗 What’s the WFH workaround you’re the most proud of?
