📚 **What happens when a child doesn't respond to reading intervention?**

One of the most interesting case studies I've read is the **Hyde Park Case Study**, which looked at students who had **not made adequate progress with Orton-Gillingham instruction**. These students were often considered "nonresponders" because, despite receiving structured literacy intervention, they continued to struggle with reading.

After receiving instruction using the **EBLI (Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction)** approach, many of these same students made meaningful gains in reading accuracy, fluency, and spelling.

💡 Why does this matter?

It reminds us that when a child isn't making progress, it doesn't necessarily mean they *can't* learn to read. Sometimes they simply need a different instructional approach that better matches how the brain learns written language.

As a reading tutor, this is one of the reasons I use EBLI. I love seeing students make connections, build confidence, and discover that reading doesn't have to be a daily struggle.

Every child deserves instruction that helps them succeed. If your child has worked incredibly hard but still isn't making the progress you expected, don't lose hope. Sometimes a different approach can make all the difference.

One little comma makes a BIG difference!

As parents, we spend so much time helping our children become stronger readers, but writing is just as important. Knowing where to place commas helps children communicate clearly, organize their thoughts, and avoid some pretty funny (or embarrassing!) mistakes.

That's why writing instruction is built into my tutoring sessions. Along with reading and spelling, students learn grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and the "why" behind the rules—not just how to memorize them.

When children understand how writing works, they become more confident in school and in everyday life. Whether they're writing a school paper, an email, or eventually a job application, these skills will stay with them for years to come.

Reading and writing go hand in hand, and I'm committed to helping my students grow in both.
