Reading Interventions With Behavioral and Social Skill Outcomes: A Synthesis of Research 06/15/2026

Did you know that reading difficulties may affect more than academic performance?

Research published through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has found a link between early reading difficulties and later behavioral challenges. Children who struggle with reading are more likely to experience social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties as they grow. While these studies do not prove that reading intervention directly improves mental health outcomes, they do suggest that reading success and overall well-being are closely connected.

This is one reason why early intervention is so important.

When children receive explicit, evidence-based reading instruction as soon as difficulties are identified, they gain critical literacy skills, build confidence, and experience greater academic success. These positive experiences may help reduce some of the frustrations and challenges that often accompany reading struggles.

Reading intervention is about more than learning to decode words. It helps children access learning, participate more fully in school, and develop confidence in their abilities.

The research is clear that early reading difficulties can have far-reaching effects. Addressing those difficulties early gives children the best opportunity to succeed both academically and personally.

📚 Every child deserves the chance to become a confident reader.

📚✨ Big words don't have to be scary!

One of the most important reading skills children learn is how to break words into smaller chunks, such as syllables and word parts. When kids learn to tackle one piece at a time, reading becomes easier, faster, and much less overwhelming. 🧩📖

That's why early reading instruction is so important. The sooner children develop strong foundational reading skills, the more confident and successful they become in school and beyond. 🌟

Reading isn't about memorizing thousands of words—it's about learning the tools to unlock them! 🔑❤️

📚✨ Strong reading skills are the foundation for success in every subject—even math! ✨📚

When children improve their reading skills, they are better able to understand directions, solve word problems, learn new concepts, and build confidence in the classroom. Reading intervention doesn't just create better readers—it helps students become stronger learners across all areas of school. 🌟

Investing in reading today can open the door to success in every subject tomorrow! ❤️📖

Reading is one of the most powerful tools for a child’s educational growth. 📚 When children read regularly, they build stronger vocabulary, improve comprehension skills, and develop the ability to think critically and express ideas more clearly.

Just 15–20 minutes of reading a day can strengthen attention, support writing skills, and give children a stronger foundation across all subjects in school. The more they read, the more confident they become as learners.

Encouraging daily reading isn’t just about school success—it helps children become curious, independent thinkers who are prepared for lifelong learning. Reading includes listening to ebooks and reading books to your kids. 🙂📚👪

Reading is still the foundation for nearly every subject a child will face in school — and far beyond it. Strong reading skills help children follow directions, solve problems, think critically, communicate clearly, and build confidence in themselves.

In today’s world, children are expected to process more information than ever before. When reading is difficult, every subject becomes harder. But when a child learns how language and print work together, doors begin to open.

Reading tutoring provides children with the tools they need to become independent learners, stronger thinkers, and more confident students. With the right instruction, growth is possible — even for struggling readers.

Every child deserves the chance to read with confidence. 📚

Report is out! Look what EBLI can do for students with dyslexia! I've know it all along but now there's data. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BMfYyi3Fw/

These students had already struggled with reading for years. Some had not made progress with previous instruction.

Then the approach changed.

The results in this study weren’t small. More fluency. Better accuracy. Stronger spelling. And growth that held over the summer.

That’s why conversations around how we teach reading matter so much.

Speech to Print instruction helps children become confident readers and spellers by teaching them how sounds connect to letters and words. Instead of relying on memorization, students learn to understand the structure of language, making reading and spelling easier, less frustrating, and more successful. Confidence grows when children finally feel like reading “clicks”! 📚✨
