I hear this often from women:
“I swear I’m eating healthy… So why am I gaining weight?”

So many women over 40 are eating salads, snacking on “healthy” foods, eating less, exercising harder–yet still feel puffy, inflamed, exhausted, and stuck.
If that sentence describes your last year, I want to tell you something before anything else: this is one of the most common things I hear, and it is never actually about discipline.
What’s happening is that the strategies that used to work for your body in your 30’s simply don’t apply when you are undergoing hormonal change in midlife.
Restricting food, pushing harder in workouts, grinding through fatigue — these all raise cortisol. And in a body where cortisol is already elevated from hormonal shifts, that makes everything worse. Not because you’re doing it wrong. Because the approach itself works against where your body actually is right now.
If this is where you are, I’d like to help you understand exactly what your body needs instead. I’d happy to discuss why:
• Under-eating protein (and sometimes carbs) will trigger weight gain
• Eating healthy foods may be quietly sabotaging your goals
• Skipping meals → overeating at night contributes to cortisol fat
• Weekend habits may be keeping you stuck
• Why eating less + exercising more often backfires after 40

If you’ve found yourself forgetting words mid-sentence…
Walking into a room and completely blanking…
Or rereading the same paragraph over and over again…
This is the symptom most women find hardest to talk about. Not the fatigue, not the weight. The brain. In your 40s and 50s, your brain starts to change as your hormones shift — specifically estrogen, progesterone, and even testosterone.
Because these hormones play a huge role in memory, focus, and mood, it can feel like your brain just isn’t working the way it used to.
And when the sharpness you’ve built your whole professional identity around starts feeling unreliable, it stops feeling like a health problem. It starts feeling like losing yourself.
Here’s the mechanism: estrogen modulates the neurotransmitters that govern focus, memory, and word retrieval. When estrogen fluctuates, so do they. Add disrupted sleep and elevated cortisol, and the result is exactly what you’re describing — words disappearing, double-checking work you used to trust completely.
For most women, this isn’t cognitive decline — it’s a hormonal shift, and one that responds well to the right support.
If this is the symptom you’ve told no one about, you’re not alone in it.
With the right support — nutrition, nervous system work, and hormones — your brain can feel clear, calm, and focused again🙌 Ready to chat? DM me for more info
