🎡💙 Good Luck to Our Potter Valley Students at the Fair! 💙🎡
Fair week is finally here!
For many of our students, this week is the culmination of months of hard work, early mornings, late evenings, and countless hours spent caring for animals, completing projects, practicing new skills, and preparing exhibits. The lessons learned along the way—responsibility, perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship—are just as important as the ribbons earned.
To all of our students: We see your hard work, and we are so proud of you. Whether you're showing livestock, exhibiting a project, volunteering your time, or cheering on your friends, know that your Potter Valley family is rooting for you every step of the way.
We're also incredibly grateful for our amazing community. Year after year, you show up to support our youth through your encouragement, your volunteerism, and your generosity—especially during the Junior Livestock Auction. Your investment in our students helps them continue learning, growing, and pursuing their goals, and it is one of the many things that makes our community so special.
Enjoy every moment of the fair. Make memories, learn something new, encourage one another, and most importantly—have fun!
Good luck to all of our exhibitors and volunteers. We can't wait to celebrate your accomplishments! 💙💛🎉

Read Across America Day was a HUGE success at Potter Valley Elementary!

We are so proud of our students — we received so many compliments about how engaged, respectful, and excited they were about reading.

Thank you to our amazing volunteer readers, parents, teachers, and staff who made the day so special. We also loved seeing all the participation in dress-up days and our new reading punch cards (thank you for your patience as we fine-tune it!).

Our goal is simple: get kids excited about reading

*📸 Photo includes some of our wonderful readers — not everyone was able to be pictured, but we appreciate you all!*

From our wonderful PTSO!
Dear Potter Valley Elementary Families,
We are so excited to celebrate Read Across America Week at Potter Valley Elementary! This year’s theme is: Readers Are Leaders
All week long, we will focus on how reading builds confidence, creativity, knowledge, and leadership skills. Strong readers grow into strong leaders, and we can’t wait to inspire our students through fun and meaningful activities!
Read-a-Thon, Punch Cards & Reading Bingo
During the week, students will participate in a Read-a-Thon. Each student will:
Set an individual reading goal
Work throughout the week to achieve that goal
Receive a combined Punch Card & Reading Bingo Card

Parents will be asked to sign the card for each day their child reads at home. Students can also earn punches and complete bingo squares during school through reading time and participation in literacy activities.
Prizes will be awarded for: Completing their punch card, Getting a Bingo, and Earning a Blackout Bingo (special prize!)
There will also be a class prize for the highest participation throughout the week!
Schoolwide Literacy Activities & Fun
Students will enjoy a variety of engaging literacy activities, including:
Journal making, Literacy games, Reading challenges, Interactive classroom reading activities, Themed dress-up days, and a classroom door decorating contest
These activities will help students celebrate reading in creative ways while continuing to work toward their reading goals.
Special Guests & Presentations
Mendocino County Library
The Mendocino County Children’s Librarian, along with the library’s resource van, will visit our school for a special activity and presentation to promote a lifelong love of reading.
We will also welcome:
Community volunteers reading to students in Preschool through 4th grade.
A special guest for 5th and 6th grade: Evan Gaustad, Artistic Director at the Ukiah Players Theatre and teacher at SPACE. Mr. Gaustad uses comedy improv to help students gain confidence and improve their communication skills. He will teach an impromptu class and talk about reading, theater, and how literacy plays an important role in his career.
Our visiting author/illustrator, Annie Ruygt. Annie is an author and illustrator of picture books and creates artwork for companies around the world. She lives and works in Ukiah, CA. She’ll be sharing how she makes books and her journey to becoming an artist, inspiring students to see how creativity and reading can open doors to exciting careers.

We are truly excited for this inspiring week celebrating literacy. With the theme Readers Are Leaders, we hope our students see themselves as confident readers and future leaders in our community.
Thank you for supporting your child’s reading at home and helping make this week a success!
Warmly,
Potter Valley Elementary PTSO

📚✨ Calling All Community Readers! ✨📚

Potter Valley Elementary PTSO is celebrating Reading Across America Week, inspired by Dr. Seuss, and we’re looking for community volunteers to help us make it extra special!

đź—“ Tuesday, March 3rd
⏰ 8:30–9:30 AM
📍 Potter Valley Elementary School

We are inviting parents, grandparents, local business owners, first responders, retirees, high school students, and community members to come read to our students and share why reading is important in your life and career. ❤️

Whether you bring your favorite childhood book, a story that inspires you, or a book connected to your profession, your time makes a lasting impact. When children see members of their community valuing reading, it helps them understand that literacy opens doors everywhere.

You don’t have to be a “perfect reader” — just someone who believes in the power of books.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please comment below or message us directly. We would love to have you join us in celebrating the joy of reading! 📖✨

Let’s show our students that our whole community supports literacy! 💛

📚✨ Reading Week at Potter Valley Elementary – March 2–6! ✨📚

We’re excited to celebrate Reading Week the first week of March, a fun-filled week dedicated to inspiring a love of reading in our students! Throughout the week, students will enjoy literary activities, dress-up days, a free used book exchange, and a read-a-thon focused purely on the joy of reading.

📖 We need our community’s help!
We are looking for:
• Daytime volunteers to help with literacy activities throughout the week
• Guest Readers to visit classrooms and read to students on Friday, March 6
• Gently used book donations for our free used book fair so every child can take a book home
• A few local sponsors to help support Reading Week and promote literacy at our school

This week is all about getting kids excited to read, learn, and have fun! If you’re able to volunteer during the day, be a guest reader, donate books, or sponsor Reading Week, please reach out to us or comment below.

Thank you for supporting our students and helping us build lifelong readers! 💙📚
