This role primarily consists of designing and leading individual and small group Structured Literacy Lessons for PK-12 students at our Bristol location.

Literacy Intake Evaluation turned… tea party? 🫖🧚‍♀️

When new students enroll in Structured Literacy Lessons, the first step is a comprehensive literacy intake evaluation.

This kindergarten queen set herself up with a tea party fit with glasses of water and a basket of goodies from the snack shelf.

In her 45-minute tea party evaluation, we were able to complete all necessary assessment measures; gathering data on her current skills in phonological awareness, alphabetic principle, decoding, spelling, and comprehension.

🧚 “Sound games” were completed with helpful interpretations from the fairies.

🐰 Decoding both traditional and nonsense words was supported by the “code breaking bunnies.”

🍕 Forming Play-Doh pizzas was a passive sensory experience while identifying letters and sounds (meal prepping for the tea party, of course)

📖 Storytelling was heavily incorporated throughout the evaluation, including within her blanket fort called “Fairytale Dreamland” (assessing skills such as listening comprehension, sequencing of events, developing concepts and ideas, and vocabulary).

What I expected to be a run-of-the-mill evaluation became something much more ✨magical✨ and for that I am so thankful.

June 22-26, 2026 | 9:00-4:00 | Ages 6-10

In this camp, your child write and illustrate their own comic from start to finish! Throughout the week, reading and writing support will be subtly incorporated in a way that feels fun and confidence-boosting. Camp includes walking trips to the Bristol Town Green, the Lawrence Memorial Library, and an ice cream celebration at Village Creemee on Friday.

All camps through Vermont Literacy Network have a maximum camp size of eight children (with an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 1:4) to ensure that each child receives plenty of one-on-one support, both academically and social-emotionally.

Some kids need to move to learn. 👟

In this lesson, a student is jumping through (segmenting) each sound in the four-phoneme word “match”.

Research on motor-enriched literacy learning shows that when children use their bodies during word work, their brains build stronger connections for reading and spelling.

For students with ADHD or high sensory needs, physical movement can improve focus, sequencing, and memory for sounds.

Instead of asking kids to sit still through reading, we design instruction that works with how their brains and bodies learn best.

This is what Individual Lessons look like when movement is part of learning.

This student LOVES to incorporate sensory play into his lessons!

Here you see him using two different colors of Play-Doh to see and feel where each sound sits in the word “sled.” 🛷

In the video, you’ll notice a quick correction. This tiny moment tells us he’s beginning to understand how vowels and consonants work together within words. That understanding will help him read words like “nine” and “bake” (VCe or magic-e words) in the near future.
