Happy Thanksgiving!
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.
We will be hiking our final 😢 post-Thanksgiving hike this Sunday, 11/28. Ed will meet hikers at Silvermine Lake (link below) at 11am. His usual route to Stockbridge Shelter is about 3.5 miles, with another 2 miles back after a lengthy lunch - bring something to share!
Current forecast is chilly, light breeze, with a slight chance of rain/snow - dress accordingly. There will be warming fires at the shelter.

On a personal note: I started hiking with this group in Spring 2008. Thru the years I've met some fantastic friends and hiking buddies, been to places I may have never thought to go before, acquired knowledge and confidence which has led me to push myself toward hiking-related goals, as well as benefitting my non-hiking life. Best of all was meeting my boyfriend, who had been with the group since the early 1990's! I'll always be grateful for joining Harriman Hikers.

Hello Facebookers!
After much consideration, hike/group leader Ed Burdzy has decided to shut down Harriman Hikers :( We would like to thank everyone who participated on the hikes, and hope you still get out in the woods.
Ed would like to do one more post-Thanksgiving hike, an annual tradition. It was always the shortest planned hike, with everyone bringing something to share for an extended lunch at Stockbridge Shelter. The total distance is about 5.5 miles.
Ed is planning on meeting at Silvermine (NOT the college) at 11am and will probably do the usual Menomine/Nawahunta Fire Rd/Long Path route. Others will go straight to the shelter to get the fires going so the shelter will be nice and toasty.
If the forecast is not great for Sunday (11/28) the alternate is Saturday (11/27). Confirmation of the date will be posted.
Hoping for good weather, friendly people and delicious food!

Entomologists (a.k.a. insect expects) are warning about the thriving tick population in 2021. With mild winters and climate change, the warmer and moister environment leads to faster tick life cycle development. Fortunately, the Hudson Valley's is at the forefront of research determining if a neighborhood-based tick prevention method can prove effective and safe — for people, pets, and the environment.
