Between Two Fires

There are roads that do not bend,
only divide.

One is the warmth we remember—
voices carried in smoke,
names spoken like seeds
into the ground of time.

The other is the silence ahead—
a wide breath,
where no ancestor answers,
only the wind deciding
who we become.

We stand there,
not as owners of either side,
but as keepers of the crossing.

A spirit walks with us—
not to lead,
not to follow,
but to remind:
strength is not loud.

It is the quiet agreement
between heart and path,
between memory and choice.

And when the world splits
into colors that do not agree,
we learn—

to carry both
without breaking.

Blue Breath, Wolf Silence

Night lays its cool hand
over the grass.

The wind combs your long hair
and does not ask why.

Stand steady.
Let the sky move.

The wolf stays close—
not to own you,
to watch with you.

Our elders said:
what protects you
does not shout.

Carry your kindness
like a small fire
under your ribs.

When fear comes,
do not feed it words.
Feed it calm.

Resilience is this:
one step,
then another,
even when the path is only snow.

Compassion is this:
you make room
for another heartbeat
beside your own.

Freedom is this:
to face the wide dark
and still choose
a gentle way forward.

Stone That Remembers the Sky

Before names were spoken,
a promise learned how to wait.
It learned patience from stone,
and watchfulness from breath.

What stands above us is not power,
but memory shaped into vigilance.
It does not hunt the night—
it teaches the night how to listen.

Time gathers in circles here.
What falls returns.
What leaves is carried back
by wind that knows every ancestor.

The small lives move freely,
unafraid of the quiet guardian.
That is how balance is proven—
when protection does not demand fear.

This is not a throne,
and not a ruin.
It is a reminder left standing:
that the world endures
when someone remembers
how to stay awake for others.

For one of us to be born, it took:
2 parents
4 grandparents
8 great-grandparents
16 great-great-grandparents
32 third-great-grandparents
64 fourth-great-grandparents
128 fifth-great-grandparents
256 sixth-great-grandparents
512 seventh-great-grandparents
1,024 eighth-great-grandparents
2,048 ninth-great-grandparents

In only the last 11 generations, that’s 4,094 ancestors—roughly within the 300 years before you or I were born!

Pause for a moment and think…
Where did each of them come from?
How many battles did they fight?
How much hunger did they endure?
How many wars did they see?
How many hardships did our ancestors survive?

And also, how much love, strength, joy, and encouragement did they pass down to us?
How much of their will to survive did each one leave inside us, allowing us to live today?

We are here only because of everything they went through.❤️
