Healing from Racial Discrimination ¿Ahora Que? Now What?

Healing from Racial Discrimination ¿Ahora Que? Now What? I am the story that you were never meant to tell. The one about being racially abused on the job.

Hi there 👋🏼

My name is Araceli Esparza
I’m a Poeta. Author. Chicana. Q***r. Nonprofit founder. Storyteller. Coach. Social entrepreneur. 🌵✨

Soy una first-generation Mexicana with un corazón del Midwest y un chingo de esperanza.

I believe stories can heal, belonging is the work, and our voices are meant to be witnessed. Through Midwest Mujeres, I help women build confidence, community, leadership, and economic opportunity because nadie should have to chase their dreams alone.

I wrote Healing from Racial Discrimination: ¿Ahora Qué? Now, What? because our stories deserve more than survival…they deserve healing.

A few years ago I was the one hosting podcasts. Ahora, I get invited onto them. 😄 You’ll find me talking about healing, entrepreneurship, identity, purpose, queerness, leadership, Chicana culture, and the messy, beautiful journey of becoming.

Coffee? Nah…give me un oatmilk tea latte. Books, poesía, good conversations, salsa, community, and women who are ready to change their lives.

Aquí estamos. Sin pedir permiso. ❤️

So I was in a local Facebook food group and somebody was asking us to talk about racism and how we how we experience it as people of color. 😏

😚I love that my book is the biggest comeback. All I have to do is drop the link for my book!

I’m sharing with you my audience what I wrote!😎🤓

The amount psychological damage racism causes is costly. Guess who doesn’t have to pay for it??? People argue that White folks do pay a cost. 🧐

But when you’re actively experiencing discrimination in the workplace —it’s turns you into who you don’t want to be: a victim. 😢

In my case I turned into the delinquent chola and wanted to take a bite back….😭 Want to find out what happens after I chase her out of the party? Of course, you— do read the book. 🤣😇😌

🎉👋🏼And if you buy this book, you are also supporting a local Latina owned bookstore in Milwaukee!

🌿 What is Magical Realism—and how can it help us heal?

Before I took action into my own hands—at a moment when rage and grief had overtaken me—
my Abuelita’s spirit appeared to me.
She didn’t speak in words, but in knowing. In presence.
“Ponlo en las manos de Dios,” she whispered through the wind.

In Healing from Racial Discrimination: ¿Ahora Qué?, I explore how magical realism—through ancestral presence, metaphor, and memory—offered me a path out of despair and into power.

🌊 My grandmother’s indigenous storytelling traditions shaped every chapter.
👁 I used metaphors for depression and anxiety—not to hide them, but to fight them, to give hope shape and texture.
🖋 And in each chapter, I offer healing prompts and journal exercises for you to do the same.

This book is for those of us who carry trauma in our bones—and still choose to dream, write, and rise.

This book was born from personal pain—of being fired, dismissed, and questioning my worth. But it is also a testament to Mi Abuelitas and Mi Mama’s legacy of work, a guide for women of color to heal after being fired, silently quitting, laid off, replaced, or dismissed.
I wrote this to remind you: iNo Estas Sola! Your story matters. iTogether, Juntas! Together, we can tell our stories.

"Stories have power. They preserve our truths, challenge the status quo, and create space for healing. For too long, certain voices—especially women, Latinas, and marginalized communities—have been silenced in publishing. Writing a book isn’t just about storytelling; it’s about disrupting oppression."

📖 Here are three ways writing a book can be an act of resistance and transformation:

"Oppression thrives when our stories are told for us or erased altogether. Writing a book lets us reclaim our experiences on our own terms, challenging stereotypes and rewriting the dominant narratives that have shaped us."

💡 Question: What’s a story from your life that deserves to be told?
"Books are blueprints for survival. When we share our lived experiences—whether it's overcoming discrimination, healing from trauma, or navigating success—we offer tools and resources for others facing similar struggles. Our words become pathways to empowerment."

📚 Your voice can be someone’s survival guide.
"Publishing has historically excluded women, people of color, and those outside traditional institutions. Every book we write—and publish—pushes against this exclusion. It opens doors for future writers and shifts the industry toward real representation."

✊🏽 Less than 1% of books published in the U.S. are by Latinas. Let’s change that.
