Hello everyone,
Next week Tuesday, (4/13) from 5:30-6:30p, ADEPT and Diverse OT are holding a combined meeting regarding barriers to healthcare that exist for patients who speak a language other than English, and subsequently, how we as providers can successfully navigate language barriers with our patients. The event will host two panelists, Dana Washburn, OTR/L and Sylvestra Ramirez, DPT, who both tackle these barriers in unique ways!
To help engage with our panelists, please add to our shared Google Doc that allows you to add and ask any questions that you may have regarding the theme, Lost in Translation: Navigating the Language Barrier in Healthcare. The link to the shared doc is as follows:

Hey all,
Just a reminder that our August ADEPT meeting is tomorrow (8/20) from 10-11am! The focus of this meeting will be on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and how shared identity can play a critical role in healthcare outcomes. The link to the podcast we will be discussing, as well as the zoom meeting information, are provided below.

Questions to consider:
1. Think about all the primary care providers you have had in the past? Did they look like you?
2. Outside of blood relatives, identify the 5 people who are closest to you (not in a physical distance sense). Do they look like you? Are they similar to you?
3. How do you identify (intentionally vague)? Do you tend to associate with people who are similar to or different from you?
