Happy 226th birthday to Theobald Böhm! Böhm is well known for his contributions to the evolution of the modern western concert flute and his patented “Böhm system” of fi*****ng, as well as his own original musical compositions. (NFA members can find a comprehensive review of his entire collection in the winter 2020 issue of The Flutist Quarterly.)

Okay, so I know I don't have a lot of choice in the matter, but with all the concerts I have access to right now, it's not like I really want to leave home anytime soon anyway. If you didn't know about Digital Concert Hall yet, it's a concert streaming service from Berliner Philharmoniker (i.e. Netflix for orchestral music). It's super worth subscribing to anyway, but right now it's free for everyone for 30 days.
The Digital Concert Hall now free for everyone | Berliner Philharmoniker
The Philharmonie is closed – so we will come to you!

If flute or clarinet is something you’ve always wanted to do, I promise I won’t judge you for that (it’s something I’ve always wanted to do too!) Just send me a message and let me know what’s going on, I can’t wait to hear from you!

By Miranda Wilson Strangers see my cello in airports and approach me. “I love cello! I’ve always wished I could play.” I say, “Why don’t you?” They demur. “I don’t have time.” “I’m too old.” “I’m t…
