Precious Lord was penned by Thomas Dorsey after the death of his wife during childbirth and the death of his stillborn son. Listen for the heartbeat slowing by use of the woodblock, the echoes of Silent Night, and the redeeming powers of God, healing affliction that all of humankind possesses.

Thomas Dorsey’s Precious Lord was penned after he lost his wife and son in childbirth. It was also Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s favorite spiritual. The Heritage Festival Chorale from Howard High School prepares to sing Precious Lord at The Douglass Theatre.
