In honor and memory of Dolly Parton, Macon R-1 School District has lowered our flags to half-staff in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation issued by the White House.

Parton's contributions include innovative music, a passion for literacy, and encouragement for others to strive for their dreams and goals.

Our flags will remain at half-staff through sunset on September 1, 2026, as our community and beyond remembers her legacy.

"Hi everyone! My name is Kristen Clay, and I live in La Plata, Missouri. I previously lived on Scott AFB, where I worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional for 3 years before moving back closer to family here in Missouri. I’ve been married to my husband, Tyler, for 12 years, and we have three boys—Keegan (11), Lawrence (9), and Chayton (7)—who will be attending La Plata Elementary School. In my free time, I love spending time with my family, which usually means baseball, fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors."

Please join us in welcoming Olivia Adkins to Macon R-1 School District! 🐅

"I’m excited to join the Macon R-1 family as the new Family and Consumer Sciences teacher and FCCLA Adviser! After working in agriculture and FFA, I’m excited to begin this new chapter in FACS and bring my background in agriculture and love of hands-on learning into the classroom. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband, Derek, and I have been married for 10 years, and we have two children, Lane and Josie. You can often find me at their poultry and rabbit shows, helping them prepare and cheering them on. We also enjoy spending time on the farm as a family. In my free time, I enjoy sewing, knitting, baking, and snuggling up with a good book."

"I’m most excited about getting to know my students and becoming a part of the Macon R-1 community. I’m looking forward to creating a classroom where students can learn practical, lifelong skills while having fun and trying new things. I’m also excited to help grow the FACS and FCCLA programs, get involved in the school and community, and see what we can accomplish together this year!"

As the new school year begins, we’re continuing to highlight both new and familiar faces across our district. Today, we’re featuring Mrs. Karen Ebert as she begins a new position at Macon Middle School!

"This will be my fourth year at Macon. I spent the past three years at the high school, and this year I’m excited to make the move to the middle school. I will be celebrating my 29th year of marriage. Time sure does fly by! In the past year I have finished my masters degree in Special Education and Elementary. My hobbies are riding my motorcycle, reading, cross stitching, and being with my husband and our dogs."

"I'm looking forward to getting to know my students. For most of my teaching career I've worked with middle school aged kids, and teaching them is like going back home. I can't wait to see how the year goes and what we will do and learn!"
