The partnership between Middle Georgia State University and
Macon+Bibb County to provide free public Wi-Fi access for campers and visitors at Lake Tobesofkee parks represents a meaningful investment in community connectivity and student success. This collaborative initiative not only enhances the recreational experience for residents and visitors, but also creates valuable experiential learning opportunities for MGA Information Technology students, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world environment.
The project strongly reflects MGA’s core values of engagement, stewardship, and learning. Through engagement, the university actively partners with the local community to address practical needs and improve quality of life. Through stewardship, MGA contributes its expertise and resources in service to the region while supporting responsible technological development. Most importantly, the initiative advances learning by giving students hands-on experience in networking, infrastructure, and community-based technology solutions that prepare them for future careers in the IT workforce.

MGA CyberKnights Earn National Recognition in Spring 2026 National Cyber League Competition
The Middle Georgia State University CyberKnights continue to demonstrate that MGA students can compete with some of the nation’s strongest cybersecurity programs. In the Spring 2026 National Cyber League (NCL) competition, MGA’s veteran CyberKnights team earned a Top 15 national placement in the Experienced Student bracket, finishing 15th overall in the Cyber Power Rankings among colleges and universities across the country.
The student competitors representing MGA included Cathy Sowa, Frieda Wilson, Jeffrey Hester, Brooke Gettys, and xyzzy. Their performance reflects months of preparation, technical problem solving, and hands-on cybersecurity practice in areas such as open-source intelligence, network traffic analysis, password auditing, log analysis, web application security, cryptography, and vulnerability assessment.
The National Cyber League is one of the largest collegiate cybersecurity competitions in the United States and simulates real-world cybersecurity tasks. MGA’s continued success in national cybersecurity competitions highlights the strength of the university’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) and Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) programs. Through coursework, hands-on labs, competition preparation, and collaborative learning opportunities, students gain experience that prepares them for cybersecurity roles in industry, government, healthcare, education, and critical infrastructure sectors.
