And just like that it’s September! I hope you had a great summer, I know I did and we’re getting ready for another season of Dinner/Dances here at the Lansing Liederkranz German-American Club. I don’t know about you but my thoughts are on Oktoberfest! Delicious German food, beverages, music, dirndls and lederhosen! All this and a whole lot of Gemütlichkeit (warmth, friendliness and good cheer) can be found at the Liederkranz on September 19 for Oktoberfest Part 1!

We are going to be having a very special menu for Oktoberfest Part 1 as a fundraiser for our roof repairs and to more closely match Oktoberfest in Germany!

For $20 you will get:

—German bratwurst
—Brötchen/bun
—Rotkohl/red cabbage
—German potato salad
—Käsespätzle/cheesy homemade noodles
—Other surprises…
—German desserts
—Included: 1 pop or 1 bier 🍺 or 1 wein 🍷 (21+)
—Dance admission included!

Hey…you’re wondering why we celebrate Oktoberfest in September when clearly it has “October” in the name! Well, it has to do with beer 🍺😆 …no really! Beer was traditionally brewed starting in October after the grains were harvested. The current year’s barrels needed to be emptied out and what better way than to drink that delicious beverage! Plus there is the added benefit of Septembers longer days and better weather! But don’t worry, Oktoberfest is also celebrated in October (Oktoberfest Part 2 coming next month)!

So let’s celebrate the beautiful month of September at the Liederkranz! Shine up your dance shoes, start thinking about delicious German food and a bier or two (it’s traditional after all) and get ready for our next Dinner/Dance!

Another beautiful friend of the Austrian Society has passed away. Our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences go out to their family and friends during this difficult time. May they find comfort, strength, and peace in the days and weeks ahead. 🙏

She was predeceased by: her husband Horst; and her sisters, Margie, Barbara and Beatrice. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved member, Anna Stockinger, who passed away on August 9, 2026.

Anna was also one of the founders of the Austrian Ski Club, and her friendship, dedication, and contributions will always be remembered and cherished by our club community.

A Memorial Gathering will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 44633 Utica Rd., Utica, MI 48317.

Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to Anna’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

May she rest in eternal peace.

Please find the attached invitation to the Celebration of Life for our dear friend and fellow member, Sigfried "Siggy" Charow.

At the request of Siggy's family, I am forwarding this invitation to the affiliated clubs where Siggy was a member and/or volunteered his time. The family has asked that this be shared with all club members who knew Siggy and would like to join in celebrating his life.

As this is an invitation-only gathering, the family will be arranging food based on the number of guests who plan to attend. To help provide the most accurate count, I would greatly appreciate it if you would send me the names of those from your club who will be attending. Hello Golfers and Friends,

The Austrian Ski Club invites you to our annual Golf Outing.
Please see the flyer for the details.

Again, we play at the Stony Creek Metro Park in Shelby Township on Sept. 13, 2026.

Start of the game is at 8:00 am, with registration starting at 7:15 am by the Club House, Stony Creek Golf Course.

After the game, we will have a party, including food and drink, at the Austrian Park.

In addition to a raffle, we will also hand-out the awards based on game results.

Hope to see you all at the Austrian Park to enjoy food, drink and have a good time together.
