Stop Making Your Workouts Harder Than They Need to Be. đź’Ş

Sometimes, the best way to train isn’t by adding more weight or more reps—it’s by changing how you perform the movement.

One of the easiest ways to change the training effect of an exercise is by manipulating tempo. ⏱️

Slow the movement down to increase time under tension and control. Speed it up to emphasize explosiveness and power. Even small changes in tempo can completely change how your body responds to an exercise.

Training smarter means understanding why you’re doing an exercise—not just going through the motions.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start training with a purpose, DM me “TRAIN” and let’s talk about how I can help you build a program around your goals. 🔥

Are your shoes secretly ruining your knees? It sounds crazy, but your knee health is deeply connected to what is happening at your feet.

When you wear shoes with a narrow toe box, your big toe gets crammed inward. This forces your foot arch to collapse and your foot to roll inward, creating a valgus position where your femur internally rotates awkwardly. The result? Unnecessary knee pain every time you squat, run, or simply stand up.

A simple fix is to switch to footwear that allows your toes to naturally splay into a fan shape. Strengthening your feet naturally aligns your knees and hips. Next time you feel that joint ache, look down at your feet first.

Follow along for more bio-mechanical tips to keep you moving pain-free!

Leg day has a way of keeping you humble.

The soreness may be temporary, but the strength you're building lasts much longer.

Lower back tension is incredibly frustrating, but the root cause might surprise you. Often, it comes down to weak hip flexors. When these muscles lack strength, they cannot lengthen properly, forcing your lower back to take the brunt of the load.

The good news is you do not need a gym membership or fancy equipment to fix it. Here are two movements you can do right at home:

Controlled Eccentrics: Stand near a wall for support, pull your knee up as high as possible past your hip crease, extend your leg, and spend 5 slow seconds lowering it down.

Seated Active Hip Flexion: Sit in a chair and pull your knee straight up toward your shoulder in a highly controlled manner. Leaning back makes it a bit easier, while leaning forward increases the challenge.

Aim for 8 to 10 controlled reps on each side to build stronger hips and a happier back.

If you sit at a desk all day, your hips are likely paying the price. To offset that constant tightness, you need to introduce joint distraction into your mobility routine.

Grab a heavy resistance band, loop it high up on your thigh, and drop into a kneeling position. Use your hand to guide your knee inward while keeping your glute completely relaxed for 5 seconds. You will feel a deep stretch on the inside of your thigh. Next, fire up that glute to fight the band and open the hip up as wide as possible for another 5 seconds. Repeat this sequence for 5 reps on each side before your next leg workout to completely unlock your lower body power.

Ever feel that annoying pinch in the front of your hip during heavy squats or hinges? You have probably been told to just ""stretch it out,"" but that might actually be making it worse. The real culprit is often a lack of internal hip rotation when you are deep in a flexed position.

Instead of endless static stretching, try incorporating split squats and lunges. By driving your active hip toward your front knee as you descend, you force your femur to internally rotate and adduct properly. Over time, this builds the tolerance you need to squat deep without that annoying impingement.

Hit save and give this a try on your next lower body day!

Feeling your lower back take over during squats? Or maybe you struggle to keep your chest up at the bottom of the movement? These two common mistakes can be fixed with simple mechanical adjustments. Focus on pulling the bar down your back with your elbows pointed down and start the movement by bending your knees before setting your hips back. These small changes lead to big gains as you go heavier.
