Swallow Cave is a small sea cave carved into the rocky shoreline of Nahant, Massachusetts. Local folklore connects the cave to a woman known as “Witch Wonderful,” a 17th-century fortune teller said to have helped prevent violence during King Philip’s War by negotiating a peaceful surrender. According to legend, she was later buried on a hill overlooking the cave, and her ghost has been reported along the shore ever since. Today, the cave is a little-known coastal landmark reached through Nahant’s tide-swept cliffs, where visitors can explore a natural passageway shaped by centuries of Atlantic waves.
