Wednesday Leadership Reflection 🔥

If the people you lead had to live on the words you speak to them, would they be nourished or depleted?

Words carry weight.

And when you’re a leader, sometimes they carry more weight than you realize.

People remember the leader who believed in them before they believed in themselves.

They also remember the leader whose words made them question whether they were capable at all.

That’s why leadership requires us to pay attention not only to what we say, but to what our words leave behind.

Do people leave conversations with us feeling encouraged, equipped, and challenged to grow?

Or do they leave feeling smaller than they did before?

And that doesn’t mean good leaders only say nice things. Sometimes leadership requires correction, accountability, and hard conversations. But even correction can be given in a way that preserves someone’s dignity.

Proverbs 12:14 reminds us that there is fruit attached to our words.

So today, pay attention to what your words leave behind.

Because long after the conversation ends, people may still be carrying what you said.

Make sure what they’re carrying helps them grow. 🔥

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned about leadership is that having something to say and knowing when to listen are equally important.

As leaders, we can get so focused on giving direction, solving problems, teaching, encouraging, and making sure everybody knows what needs to happen.

But sometimes the person in front of us doesn’t need our answer.

They need our ear.

They need enough space to finish the thought without us jumping in.
They need to know their perspective matters.
They need to feel like we’re listening to understand—not just waiting for our turn to talk.

Your voice may help you lead people, but your ability to listen helps you know the people you’re leading.

That’s a different level of leadership.

Sometimes the strongest person in the room is the one running on empty.

I know because I’ve been her.

Long before I ever had a leadership title, I learned how to be responsible. How to help. How to take care of people. How to step in when something needed to be done.

Somewhere along the way, being “the one who can handle it” became part of who I was.

And if I’m being truthful, I took pride in that.

If something needed to be done, I could do it.
If someone needed help, I was there.
If there was a problem, I was already thinking about how to fix it.

That followed me right into leadership.

But here’s what I’ve learned: when you’re known as the strong one, people don’t always recognize when you’re tired.

Especially when you keep showing up.

You can be exhausted and still productive.
Overwhelmed and still dependable.
Running on empty and still getting the job done.

I’ve done all three.

One of the most important lessons I’ve had to learn is that my ability to carry something does not automatically make it mine to carry.

And being a strong leader does not require me to empty myself to prove my strength.

That lesson is woven throughout Lead on Fire because I didn’t write this book from a place of having leadership all figured out. I wrote it from what I’ve lived, what I’ve learned, what I’ve had to unlearn, and what I’m still learning today.

You were never meant to lead on empty.

So here’s a question worth sitting with:

Are you truly full…or have you simply gotten really good at functioning on empty?

Wednesday Leadership Reflection 🔥

One of the biggest myths in leadership is that confidence and humility can't exist together.

They can.

In fact, the best leaders I've met have both.

They walk into a room without needing to prove they're the smartest person there. They ask questions. They celebrate other people's wins. They admit when they're wrong. And when it's time to lead, they don't shrink back.

That's not weakness. That's confidence rooted in purpose instead of ego.

I don't want to be remembered as the loudest leader in the room.
I want to be remembered as someone who made people feel seen, valued, and inspired to become who they were created to be.

"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." — Philippians 2:3

Lead boldly. Stay humble. Let your purpose do the talking. ❤️🔥

One of the things I'm unlearning is believing I have to have it all together before I celebrate how far I've come.

For so many years, I focused on what still needed fixing, improving, or accomplishing that I forgot to appreciate the woman God has been shaping all along.

The truth is, growth and gratitude can exist at the same time.
We don't have to choose between being proud of who we are today and believing there's still more ahead.

As leaders, we don't have to be perfect. We simply have to remain teachable, humble, and willing to grow.

"You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress."

Monday Morning Leadership ☀️

"Time is the only currency you spend without knowing your balance."

As leaders, we often spend our time as if we'll always have more of it. We say yes one more time. We squeeze in one more meeting. We take on one more responsibility.

Before we know it, we've invested our time everywhere except where it matters most.
One of the greatest leadership lessons I've learned is that every "yes" is also a "no."

Every time I say yes to one thing, I'm saying no to something else—my peace, my family, my health, my relationship with God, or the work that matters most.
Time is one of the few resources we can never earn back.

So this Monday, don't just ask yourself, "What do I need to get done?"
Ask yourself, "What deserves my time?"

Lead intentionally.
Lead with purpose.
And remember...
You were never meant to lead on empty.

Leadership isn't measured by how much control you have. It's measured by how people feel when you're around.

"You're not a leader if your absence feels like a relief."

If people breathe easier when you leave the room, that's not respect...that's survival.

Leadership isn't about being the smartest person in the room, the loudest voice, or making sure everyone knows you're in charge. It's about creating an environment where people feel seen, valued, challenged, and safe enough to grow.

The best leaders don't leave people drained. They leave people stronger.

One of my favorite quotes that I shared during my Harmony in the Hustle keynote at the National Nurses in Business Association Conference was this:
"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you."

As I was preparing to leave for the conference, I did something I don't think many leaders do often enough.

I intentionally scheduled time on my calendar to rest when I returned home.
Not because I expected to be exhausted, but because I knew I would be pouring into others. I also knew that if I didn't intentionally make space to recharge, I would jump right back into emails, projects, meetings, and the next opportunity.

One of the lessons I shared with the audience was this:
If rest isn't on your calendar, it probably won't happen.
Too many leaders wear exhaustion like a badge of honor. But I've learned that the strongest leaders aren't the ones who never stop. They're the ones who know when to pause.
You were never meant to lead on empty.
So today, open your calendar and schedule some time to unplug. Spend time with God. Take a walk. Read a book. Laugh with someone you love. Sit in the silence.
Whatever fills your cup...protect time for it.
Because the people you're called to lead don't just need your gifts. They need you at your healthiest, your wisest, and your most peaceful.

Leadership isn't about being the smartest person in the room or having the biggest title. It's about how people feel when they're in your presence.

The best leaders don't spend their time trying to stand above others. They encourage, empower, and walk alongside the people they've been called to lead. That's where trust is built. That's where influence grows.

I've learned that some of the most impactful leaders are the ones who never make it about themselves. They make others feel seen, valued, and capable.
As leaders, let's never confuse position with purpose.
