Today was another absolutely wonderful homecoming parade in Lunenburg! Thank you to all of our high school class advisors, students and parent volunteers who spent so many hours building the floats. Thank you to Dawn Gearin and the Student Council for organizing the rally and parade. And special thank you to all of the school and community groups who participated and supported the parade.

The float theme this year was superheroes. The seniors (2027) chose Superman. The juniors (2028) chose Batman. The sophomores (2029) chose Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The freshmen (2030) chose Captain America. All of the floats were fantastic. The winner of the 2026 homecoming float competition was the senior Spiderman float. The runners-up was the sophomore Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle float. Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to create them!

Some of the fun from the 2026 LHS Homecoming Rally yesterday! Mrs. Gail Okerman will be the grand marshal for the parade today. Jess Rast is our homecoming queen and Nate Ayles is our homecoming king. This is Dawn Gearin's final homecoming season before her retirement at the end of this year. As Student Council Advisor, she has organized all aspects of homecoming for the last several years. She will be missed next year!!! The parade begins at noon followed by the football game at 1! Come out and celebrate Lunenburg homecoming with us!!

A lot is happening in town this weekend!

Saturday begins with the homecoming parade at noon, followed by the homecoming football game at 1pm. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $5 for non-Lunenburg students, $3 for seniors, and LMHS students have free admission.

LHS students can then dance the night away at the Homecoming Dance starting at 7pm.

Sunday brings sunshine and slightly warmer weather for the Miles for Myles events. There will be a kids fun run at 9am, followed by a 5k walk and run at 9:30am.

We are pleased to inform you of Lunenburg School District’s participation in the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2026-2027 school year. The Seal of Biliteracy is for any student who demonstrates proficiency in English and any other language, whether they speak the non-English language at home or learn it at school or in the community. The DESE website: https://www.doe.mass.edu/scholarships/biliteracy/default.html provides detailed information, a promotional video, and PowerPoints for students and families. The State Seal of Biliteracy aims to:

1. Encourage students to study and master languages;

2. Certify attainment of biliteracy skills;

3. Recognize the value of language diversity;

4. Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;

5. Provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for attainment of high-level skills in languages;

6. Prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and

7. Strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community.

In order to earn the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy, students must:

1. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English by earning a score of 500 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS, or a qualifying composite and literacy score on the ACCESS test

2. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in a world language by attaining a minimum score equivalent to Intermediate-High on an assessment approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and

Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

The Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction is available to students who:

1. Earn a score of 530 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS

2. Demonstrate a proficiency level of Advanced Low or higher on a Department-approved assessment, and

3. Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

We will administer the AAPPL assessment for world languages during the week of March 8–March 11, 2027. There is no cost; it is voluntary; and it is open to any junior or senior who has received the qualifying score in English. Students seeking to earn the Seal through a portfolio assessment for languages without approved tests must submit their portfolio scores and documentation to the district by March 12, 2027. They should seek out Jessica Ayer, French teacher at the high school in room B204, as soon as possible to begin compiling their portfolios.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Señora Del Villar's AP Spanish students visited the elementary school to read Spanish stories to fifth-grade students. This activity provided an opportunity to share Hispanic culture and history while promoting a love of reading and the Spanish language among younger learners.

Reminder that LMHS ONLY will have an early release day on Tuesday, October 20th for Parent/Teacher conferences

Emails were sent out Friday morning to LMHS families with links to the registration platform.

LMS Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th from 12:00- 3:00PM and Thursday, October 22nd from 5:00-8:00 PM.

LHS Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 20th from 12:30-2:30 PM and Thursday, October 22nd from 5:00- 7:00PM.

Please help us recognize and congratulate LHS History teacher Hailee Attorri for becoming the recipient of the inaugural Dorrie Kehoe Educator Award, given by the Tsongas Industrial History Center. The attached press release provides much more information, including details of the presentation ceremony, which is open to the public.

"Our winner this year is Hailee Attorri who was nominated by several of her colleagues. The nominations were reviewed by former and current TIHC staff. Attorri’s nomination stood out to the committee because of the many examples and connections she makes for students across disciplines and the support and resources she consistently shares with others in the education field. One nominator stated, “Hailee uses place-based and place-conscious learning as a way to connect students to their community and have them form emotional, social, and political connections to their surroundings.”

Upon learning she received the award, Attorri stated, “I hope that what I do in my classroom captures and continues Dorrie Kehoe’s legacy because, like her, I truly believe hands-on and place-based learning are so important for our students”.
