As an engineer I had to take many advanced math classes. I used algebra and calculus everyday in my job designing electronic microcircuits. When I became a teacher I realized there was so much anxiety in the students with math. I gave real world applications to show where the math is used and made the environment a positive and supportive one. I developed techniques to simplify the problem and help the student feel empowered to solve it on thier own. I love to see the smile on a face when they say “I got it!”. There is a saying I like: “ You can lead a horse to water…..it’s our job to make it thirsty”.
