Texas Tech Alpha Kappa Delta serves many functions:
Each semester, the group performs community service activities that range from collecting clothing items and hygiene items for shelters, fundraising for shelters to volunteering at The South Plains Food Bank.
The Rho Chapter helps fund its members that present at sociological conferences across the nation.
In order to be able to fund its members, AKD also has fundraisers, such as chili lunches and t-shirt sales, in order to be self-sufficient.
This organization is open to undergraduates who have declared sociology as their major, are at least junior class standing, maintain a 3.3 GPA overall, a 3.0 GPA in sociology coursework and have taken at least 4 courses in sociology. Graduate students must be in the sociology program, have completed one semester of graduate study in sociology, and maintain a GPA of at least a B.
