Please consider making a donation to help support the laid off Herald Leader journalists in this time of transition. The experience levels of those let go run the gamut, from some who have been with the paper for a long time and some who just joined in the past two years. Every dollar raised can help bring some financial stability during this difficult time.

The SPJ Louisville Pro Chapter Board of Directors issued the following statement regarding the layoffs of 12 journalists at the Lexington Herald-Leader:

"Today is a dark day for Kentucky communities that rely on a robust and fearless news media. The loss of the experienced, talented and accomplished journalists at the Lexington Herald-Leader is a loss for all of us as citizens. These cuts should alarm all Kentuckians who want to know how their government operates and tax dollars are spent. Kentuckians also value the stories about their schools, health care, and neighborhoods — stories that will be less frequent with fewer professionals covering them. As the SPJ Louisville Pro Chapter, we wish to express our support and solidarity with these journalists in this difficult time."
