Transforming the learner experience to be meaningful, vibrant, inspiring.

08/11/2026

Vibrant Learning doesn’t just mean big projects and flashy experiences. It’s built in the day-to-day moments, too.

With Somerset Independent Schools, we used the Transformations and 50+ practical strategies to design simple, sustainable shifts that make everyday learning more vibrant—and the work more joyful for teachers.

Thanks for designing alongside us, Somerset!

We believe learning should be joyful—for learners and the educators who serve them.

For educators, joy means professional learning that is practical, sustainable, and rooted in the work they do every day. With Adair County Schools, we explored how our Transformations and Field Guide of 50+ classroom-ready strategies can elevate HQIRs without asking teachers to start from scratch.

Four regions.
Twelve sessions.
Hundreds of conversations.

This summer we joined educators across Kentucky at the KDE Vibrant Learning Collaboratives. Thank you to Kentucky Department of Education Division of Innovation for investing in this work and to every participant who reminded us that transformation happens one conversation, one classroom, and one small shift at a time.

Too often, rigor is something students encounter on test day. Joy is something they experience on project day.

Old Mill Elementary School educators are designing for something different: joyful, rigorous learning that lives in the middle of the journey.

Together, we explored practical ways to make challenge, curiosity, and meaningful thinking part of what learners experience every day.

Every learner has a powerful story to share. They deserve a Defense of Learning that empowers them to do so.

In our Defense of Learning Design Studio, we unpacked the design elements that shape meaningful defenses—from framing the purpose to engaging the audience. Whether schools were imagining a brand-new Defense of Learning or rethinking one already in place, we explored possibilities, challenged assumptions, and shared tools from our Defense Design Toolkit to help bring those ideas to life.

HQIRs are a powerful foundation, but the real impact comes from the educators who bring them to life.

Thank you Pleasant Grove Elementary School for spending the day exploring how to adapt HQIRs with intention, preserving the rigor while creating learning experiences that are meaningful, engaging, and authentic to students.

We would follow you anywhere…

Imagine defending your growth over the last year. What kinds of artifacts would you choose to tell your story? Why might you choose those particular artifacts? What leads to meaningful evidence of learning and growth?

As we begin planning for another year, perhaps the most important design question isn't - How will students defend their learning?

Instead, perhaps it's - What kinds of learning experiences will produce artifacts worth defending?

We're exploring these questions, sharing a ready-to-use protocol and inviting you to design with us on July 30. Learn more in this week's CONNECTIONS!
