"The companies that win tomorrow are no longer waiting for fully trained talent to appear."
Check out this great article from AAG's very own Joe Atkinson. Dealership's poaching techs from other dealerships isn't the only threat to our industries skilled labor force. Aeronautics, advanced manufacturing, engineering, and many other industries value these skill sets and offer competitive wages and benefits to those willing to learn a new skill.
The time to take control of our workforce future is now, and Automotive Apprenticeship Group (AAG) is here to lead the charge and help dealerships hit the ground running in securing pipelines of technicians for years to come.
Guest commentary: The next generation of dealership service will be built, not bought
Structural technician shortages force dealerships to build talent pipelines instead of relying on hiring. Workforce development drives capacity, retention and long-term competitive advantage in service operations.

As we continue celebrating 2026 National Apprenticeship Week, we’re shining the spotlight on the Midwest and recognizing two apprentices building strong careers through hands-on learning and mentorship Christopher and Jhon.
Meet Apprentices Christopher and Jhon, who are both Apprentices with Tom Wood Automotive Group in Indianapolis Indiana. Both are gaining valuable dealership experience while advancing their skills in real-world shop environments every day. Their stories reflect what apprenticeship is all about; opportunity, growth, and a pathway into a meaningful career.
From mastering foundational maintenance to taking on more advanced diagnostics and repairs, both apprentices are showing what’s possible when talent is paired with mentorship and access. We also want to recognize Conner Mehling for the ongoing support and guidance she provides in helping apprentices stay engaged, progress through the program, and succeed.
Strong partnerships create strong career pathways, and the work happening in the Midwest is a great example of that in action. We’re proud to celebrate Christopher and Jhon as part of the next generation of automotive technicians.

As we continue our campaign for 2026 National Apprenticeship Week (April 26–May 2), AAG is proud to spotlight two apprentices making strong progress in our Los Angeles/Orange County region Vincent and Ivan.
Vincent is completing his apprenticeship with Audi USA at Pacific Audi, while Ivan is gaining hands-on experience with Tuttle-Click’s Capistrano Ford with the support of the California New Car Dealers Association (CNCDA).
Both represent the next generation of automotive technicians committed, driven, and continuously building their technical and professional skillsets.
Their growth reflects the impact of structured training, strong mentorship, and dedicated employer partnerships.
We also recognize the support from our LA/Orange County team, Jasemine Urbina and Ron Williams, who continue to ensure each apprentice has the guidance and resources needed to succeed.
This is what building a sustainable workforce pipeline looks like!!!💪
