Our GME community has Dr. Otieno’s family, friends, co-residents, and program staff and faculty in our thoughts and prayers.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Ephraim Otieno on December 8.

Otieno, a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine and a preliminary medicine intern with our Internal Medicine Residency Program, was a bright light within our community. His positivity, joyful spirit and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of learning and working alongside him.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, colleagues and all who loved him. We grieve this tremendous loss together.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Oldham-Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, Kentucky, with livestreaming available on their website.

As we navigate this difficult time, we are reminded of the strength of community. Dr. Otieno lived with remarkable joy and curiosity, and may we honor his memory by offering the best of ourselves each day to our patients and to each other.
