Did you know that the GPS technology we rely on today exists thanks to the groundbreaking work of Dr. Gladys West? A mathematician and trailblazer, Dr. West played a key role in developing satellite models that became the foundation for modern GPS technology.

As one of the few Black women working in STEM during the 1950s, she broke barriers at the U.S. Naval Weapons Laboratory, using complex mathematical calculations to map the Earth’s shape with incredible precision. Her work continues to impact navigation, communication, and daily life around the world!
