His passion for education was refined by his teaching experiences in both public and private schools in Barbados and the United States of America, specifically Kentucky and Georgia. In these teaching arenas, he was afforded the opportunities to immerse himself in student diversity and his student-centered approach to learning enabled him to better understand a full range of students’ learning styles, learning differences, and challenges. As a result of his approach to holistic student development and his dedication to secondary education, Dr. Francis was nominated twice for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and is the recipient of several coveted awards for his focus on student engagement, learning, and leadership. Some of these awards included:
The Kentucky WHAS-11 ExCEL Award for Excellence in Classroom and Educational Leadership. The Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. The Teacher's Association Schoolhouse Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership. The Jefferson County Public Schools (KY) Superintendent Distinguished Service Award. His ability to use differentiated instruction techniques along with innovative teaching methods allows him to create dynamic and engaging lessons. The delivery of these lessons in an authentic and real-world relevance format, in a collaborative learning environment, allows each student the opportunity to thrive and succeed. He continues to be focused on his professional development and is committed to staying up to date with the latest educational trends, research, and methodologies.
