Aventuras Forest School

📖 Today we read another beautiful bilingual book by Brendan Kearney called Forest/¡Salvemos los Bosques! This tale follows Finn and Skip as they help animals find new homes after logging destroys their habitats. It's a tender story that includes real tips for how families can help the Earth.
🎨 The kiddos loved the illustrations so much that they studied them intently after the read aloud, and many of them carried that inspiration straight into art time. We also learned how to mix paint to make our own browns and greens.

🤩 After more than seven years in the same spot, we still find ourselves saying “what is THAT?”
🪲 This morning we discovered a beetle none of us had ever seen before, striking enough that we initially thought it was a bee or yellowjacket. Turns out it’s a Strophiona tigrina, a type of flower longhorn beetle. We watched it glisten gold in the sunlight and started wondering together:
🐝 Could that resemblance to a stinging insect actually be useful for the beetle? A disguise? A survival strategy?
🤔 That question didn’t come from a textbook. It came from a group of preschoolers crouching in the dirt, paying attention. This is what seven years in one place looks like: The forest keeps teaching us, every single week.

𝛑🎨We love art projects that tie in to our math topics, but we hate how many preschool art projects use a teacher-centered, cookie-cutter, product-oriented approach! We value art that kids can do independently and creatively. That why for Pi Day, we adapted some pizza crafts we found online so that kids could do the project completely on their own and interpret it in their own way, and it paid off with a very engaging activity! First the children painted paper plates red with "sauce" and let them dry. Then they cut and glued whatever toppings they wanted for their pizza. Some kids reinterpreted the prompt to make "rainbow pizzas" that did not have traditional "ingredients" but were more focused on using different colors. We really admired their unique vision! 🌈🍕

He might be almost as big as me but it’s great to see that he’s still my little forest school boy at heart 😍💚

🦋Today we were visited by this Pale Tiger Swallowtail. Its wing was damaged but it could still fly. We admired its beauty and then gently moved it out of the way so no one would step on it. Gracias por visitarnos, mariposa!
