Did you or your parents ever use one of these? 🧐 In the 1950s, shoe stores used actual X-RAY machines to fit shoes. It sounds crazy now, but back then, it was "science." The radiation burns tell a different story.

The radiation was often directed straight at the pelvis and feet. While customers got a heavy dose, the sales clerks suffered the most—many developing radiation dermatitis or requiring amputations after years of daily exposure.
