I have decided to stay in the race as a write-in candidate to encourage more women of color, especially from the Asian Pacific American community, to run for political office. I believe that my voice is important because I am different from the other candidates in that I have direct classroom experience working for LAUSD as a bilingual elementary school teacher, I earned my teaching credential through LAUSD, and I have been advocating on behalf of low income students with disabilities throughout all parts of LAUSD since 2008. I have seen firsthand the negative impact that Covid has had on these vulnerable youths and I will fight to ensure that adequate resources are in place immediately. If elected, I will ensure that the Covid funds are used appropriately and with transparency. Please support me and put children first by writing my name on the June 7, 2022 ballot.

The verdict is out. Unfortunately, I did not receive enough valid signatures to be on the March 7, 2017 ballot. I want to thank everyone who helped me on my campaign and who believed in me and the issues that I stood for. Although I did not make it on the ballot this time, the fight is not over. Our public education system is being taken over by corporate interest groups and we need to unite as one to ensure that all children have access to quality education. We need to continue to fight to ensure that children who have special needs are not left out and that LAUSD comply with the federal and state laws that were created to protect them. We need to hold our board members accountable to their constituencies and demand for board meetings that allow for meaningful parent and community engagement. We need to ensure that our schools are safe and inclusive and that bigotry, mysogeny, homophobia, and xenophobia will not be tolerated. There is a lot of work that needs to be done and I will continue to fight tirelessly and passionately for students, parents, and the community. Thank you again for your support. Si se puede.

Thank you to those who helped gather signatures with me, to those who helped translate my flyers in multiple Asian languages and in Spanish, and to those who have made a financial contribution to my campaign thus far. I am excited to announce that I submitted my nominating petitions this past Wednesday and now waiting for the verification process. I could not have done it without your support so thank you very much!! Now as I move to phase two of this campaign, I really need your financial donations. I am running a grass roots campaign so any donation would really help me get my name out and be the first Asian American woman and special education attorney to be elected as a school board member for LAUSD, District 2, serving Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Koreatown, Pilipinotown, Boyle Heights, Echo Park, among other areas. https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/miho4lausdschoolboard2017

My campaign is about organizing, mobilizing, and engaging the community about the public education system. After a long day of gathering signatures, I was invited to a neighbor's house and we had a great conversation about charter schools (where their son attends) and traditional public schools. Not only did he become a registered voter and sign my nominating petition, but he and his wife asked how they could help out on my campaign despite my views against the privatization of public education via charters and vouchers. With permission from the family, here is a picture of him proudly holding up his voter registration form.

It was great seeing former colleagues from back in the days when I was a teacher/organizer in the late 1990s. Feeling inspired by all of the teachers and community members who came out to the Post Election Immigrant Rights for Educators event held at UTLA. If given the opportunity to represent Local District 2 as a school board member for LAUSD, I promise that not only will I fight to ensure that students with special needs are provided with a free and appropriate public education, but I will also fight to ensure that students and parents feel safe in this anti-immigrant climate and that schools are provided with the necessary resources to create this safe space.

Thank you to everyone who has helped thus far with my campaign. I really appreciate your support, love, wise advise, and encouragement. As you all may know, one of the candidates that I am running against is a three-time incumbent backed by special interest groups (charter school movement). Although we may not be able to raise as much money as her camp, we can still mobilize the community and get people to vote on March 7, 2017. However, in order to do so, I need your support. Please consider making a financial contribution to my campaign (no amount is too small) if you support my candidacy and the issues that I believe in. Please click the link below to make a donation. Thank you!!

In the late 90s and until 2001 (when I decided to go to law school to pursue a different avenue to fight for immigrants, children, and education rights) I was very active in my teacher's union, UTLA. It's great to see that they are still collaborating with the API community on important topics such as immigrant rights. In the wake of all of this hate and anti-immigrant sentiments, we need to come together and show our future president that we will not tolerate hate and that this land is a nation built by immigrants and we are here to stay. Si se puede.
