Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic - sometimes visible, sometimes too small to see at all.
They’ve been found in our blood, livers, brains and even placentas. We don’t have all the answers yet, but we have enough evidence to be concerned.
The good news: we can reduce our exposure.
Not by changing everything overnight but by making simple shifts over time - especially cutting back on single-use plastics.
Small changes make a difference.
Start where you can.

We started SOFi with one goal in mind - to make sustainability effortless. But over time, we realized that wasn’t enough.
If we wanted to shift an industry, the brand had to stand for more -
to educate, to inspire and to make the sustainable choice the easy one.
Because sustainable products shouldn’t just be better for the planet.
They should be better, period.
More functional.
More innovative.
More enjoyable to use.
But there was a problem:
The language around sustainability stopped meaning what it used to.
Compostable. Biodegradable. Eco-friendly.
Terms that once signaled progress became hollow, overused and misunderstood.
We wanted something honest.
A name that reflects what our products actually do:
disappear.
So we built our own language.
SOFi is now Nothing.
Here for now. Not forever.

♻️ PHA AND PLA PLASTICS ♻️
👉🏻 PHAs — or its sexier scientific name, polyhydroxyalkanoate — are bio-based plastics. They’ve been popularly adopted as a biodegradable option for consumer products and food and beverage companies.
👉🏻 PLA, polylactic acid, is a polymer made from bio-based materials like cornstarch or sugarcane. It’s commonly used in anything from bottles to medical devices to 3D printing.
👉🏻 While they’re improvements to petroleum-based plastic, studies have found PHA and PLA bioplastics are not the heroes they’re cracked up to be.
👉🏻 Bioplastics also often entail a carbon-intensive manufacturing process, cannot be effectively recycled among conventional plastics, and require significant land development for production.
👉🏻 To effectively biodegrade, most bioplastics need high-temperature, industrial composting facilities. Consequently, many bioplastics are often piled up in landfills. If deprived of oxygen, bioplastics may release methane — a greenhouse gas at least 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
