This is Alex.

She came to Atwater Photo Camp. Then she went home and kept going.

Kept showing up, kept pushing herself and kept making work that feels honest and fearless.

These long exposures — she made all of them on her own.

One of the things she wrote after camp still resonates:
"I've really learned a lot about myself."

Happy Mother’s Day

To the moms who drive across town,
trust us with their kids,
save every photo,
and stand in front of the wall while their child says,

“Look what I made”

To the moms who encourage creativity,
support big ideas,
and say yes to one more museum stop —

thank you.

Thank you for trusting us with your kids.

We know how much that means.

Summer in Los Angeles looks different when you’re carrying a camera.

From museums and downtown streets to Elysian Park and Dodger Stadium, campers spend the week exploring the city, making photos and having a lot of fun along the way.

Seeing LA from a different perspective with new friends.

That’s Photo Camp.

Six sessions this summer, June 22 through July 31.

Benny came to camp from Milan.

At the end of her first week, she said:

“I liked the beach and I learned how to socialize with non-Italian people… I also made friends and started going out of my comfort zone.”

Then she came back for 2nd week.

It’s fun to make photos —
but it also helps kids find their place, make real friends, and realize they’re capable of more than they thought.

Sometimes the best thing they bring home isn’t a photo —
it’s who they become while making it.

Summer sessions are filling up.

Atwater Photo Camp is where kids explore Los Angeles, make photographs, and learn to see differently.

Riley said her favorite part was “getting to share my photos.”

That’s what happens when kids feel seen:
they take creative risks, build confidence and start trusting their own perspective.

Alex was 13 when she first came to photo camp.

By the end of that first week, this was her takeaway:

“The fact that others like me, and that they enjoy my company is the best part.”

Confidence, connection, feeling like you belong… that’s priceless.

She’s been back several times since, and this year she’s interning with us.
