In the time of the Mexica, people told of a humble rabbit who lived beneath the sky. One night, the god Quetzalcóatl walked the earth in human form, weary and hungry beneath the vast darkness.

He came upon the small rabbit, who had nothing but grass to offer. Seeing the god’s hunger, the rabbit spoke softly: “I have little, but you may eat me so you may live.” Moved by such selfless courage, Quetzalcóatl refused the sacrifice.

Instead, he lifted the rabbit high into the heavens and pressed its image onto the face of the moon, so all people would remember that even the smallest among us can shine with the greatest heart.

And if you look closely at the moon, you can still see the shape of the rabbit—forever watching over the night. 🌙

El quetzal, descrito alguna vez por National Geographic como «el ave que cualquier país desearía tener», es un verdadero tesoro natural de Mesoamérica.

Con sus resplandecientes plumas de color verde esmeralda, su pecho de un rojo intenso y su larga y fluida cola, el quetzal parece casi irreal, como algo sacado de una leyenda.

Para civilizaciones antiguas como la maya y la azteca, esta ave era sagrada. Simbolizaba la libertad, la vida y la riqueza; tanto, que causarle daño estaba prohibido.

Hoy en día, todavía es posible encontrar a esta deslumbrante ave volando libremente en los bosques nubosos del sur de México, especialmente en Chiapas.

No es solo un ave... es un símbolo de naturaleza, historia y orgullo.

Un verdadero tesoro mexicano. 🇲🇽✨
