10/10 habits to transform your French learning journey 🇫🇷✨ Which habit are you adopting today? 💬 (And link in bio to join my Substack for weekly native French guides! 💌)
Don’t just write textbook exercises; write about your day. Describe what you ate, how you felt, or your plans for tomorrow. It forces your brain to retrieve vocabulary that actually matters to your personal life.
Change your phone, GPS, and social media apps to French. You already know where the buttons are by muscle memory, so this builds passive vocabulary for daily with zero extra effort.
Narrate what you’re doing while cooking, getting ready, or walking your dog (« Bon, maintenant je vais me faire un café… »). It gets your mouth accustomed to making French sounds without the pressure of a social setting.
Instead of pausing silently for 10 seconds while trying to formulate a sentence, use native filler words. They buy your brain processing time and make you sound natural immediately.
Slow down native content slightly rather than sticking purely to slow, “artificial learning” podcasts. You get the real cadence, slang, and pronunciation, just calibrated to a manageable pace for your ears.
English subtitles train your brain to read English, not listen to French. Switching subtitles to French connects the written word to the spoken pronunciation in real time.
Stop memorizing random word or verb lists. Whenever you catch yourself thinking a specific phrase in English during your day, look up how a French person would naturally say it and save it to your phone.
