Today is the International Day of Biodiversity, and to celebrate I am offering 10% off of the first session of our full year Vertebrate Zoology class! This class is geared toward students ages 13-17, and is the most focused and in-depth vertebrate zoology class you'll find for homeschoolers. Plus, there is an optional end of year field trip to the jungles of PANAMA to get up close and personal with the topics we've learned! Hurry- deadline is Sunday, May 24. https://nextlevelhomeschool.com/courses/vertebrate-zoology/

If you have seen the recent news regarding the Canvas security breach and are wondering if Next Level Homeschool's data was affected, we want to reassure you that our school was NOT impacted.

In March, we made the decision to end our relationship with Instructure's hosting platform for the Canvas LMS. We transitioned to hosting Canvas LMS on our own private server, which gave us greater control over security, privacy, and the overall learning experience for our students and families.

While no online platform is ever completely immune to risks, our independent setup means that the recent Canvas related breach does NOT affect NLH student data. Protecting our student information is a priority for us, and we will continue monitoring and improving our systems to keep our data safe.

One of the most fun sections in our Renaissance art history class is on Leonardo da Vinci's many inventions! Student Millie made this great presentation to teach us all about da Vinci's self-supporting bridge. Next Level Homeschool students are always encouraged to use their talents and skills to create projects! I'm often amazed at the wide-range of talents these kids use, and how their use their passions to express new passions they've discovered in class! This is what Julian submitted...This song is a song that I hope to play at our next show. I’m in a punk band called Kill
The Horse and we all feel very strongly against shark finning and saving sharks!
P.s Kill The Horse is just a line from our favorite show. We don’t actually want to kill
horses. Also, if you want to watch us play you can at kill_the_horse_the_band on
instagram ;)
The oceans are red.
The violence is not seen.
The rich people eating and boasting ‘bout their green.
Mutilation, maiming.
Why ain’t nobody sayin’ about the slayin’ and the darkness upon the seas?
Crime scenes forgotten.
Stereotyped till they come off rotten.
Oblivious people dreaming for when the sharks get stomped in.
Let me run you through it -
Ya pulled on deck, fingers gorged into your eyes.
Three figures appear and chop at your demise. You wanna start a war!

Lungs hanging out.
Your head hanging by a thread.
You wish those men had killed you so at least you could be dead.
Sinking to the ocean floor.
The darkness comes forever more.
You smell the blood of your brothers and sisters.
We wanna start a war!
You wanna start a war!
We wanna start a war!

In Vertebrate Zoology, we've been working our way through the 5 major vertebrate groups all year, and we're now on the birds! A big part of our class is allowing students to get hands on with dissections in order to have a firm understanding of comparative anatomy. Riley is dissecting a pigeon to see the differences between them and their close relatives, the reptiles. For more information on this class, go to https://nextlevelhomeschool.com/courses/vertebrate-zoology/

In Earth Science, we've been spending a lot of time talking about carbon footprints. Fiona decided to calculate the carbon footprint of a plastic water bottle....it's so much more complicated than we tend to think about! Sometimes the most interesting chemistry labs can be done with simple household items! Finn is doing a pH lab, testing the pH of different household substances using a red cabbage indicator he made! If your kid loves hands on labs, and you love using materials that don't cost a fortune, check out this middle school chemistry class at https://nextlevelhomeschool.com/courses/physical-science-chemistry/

Not all sharks are the same! In Marine Zoology: Vertebrates, we've been learning how different groups of sharks have different fin structures. Erica has beautifully illustrated two different species. Can you spot what the differentiating feature is? For more information on this class, go to https://nextlevelhomeschool.com/courses/marine-zoology-series/

In Vertebrate Zoology, we are serious about anatomy! Here is student Avi dissecting a snake to see the adaptations in anatomy from other reptiles (we also dissected turtles). If your student is serious about learning, check out this class at https://nextlevelhomeschool.com/courses/vertebrate-zoology/
