School on Wheels provides academic tutoring to children experiencing homelessness in SoCal

Since 1993, the mission of School on Wheels has never wavered: to enhance educational opportunities for children who are experiencing homelessness from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our goal is to shrink the gaps in their learning and provide them with the highest level of education possible. Our program serves as a consistent support system for our students during a time of great stress and fear.

Research demonstrates that an education that promotes social-emotional learning (SEL) has a positive impact on a wide range of outcomes, including academic performance, healthy relationships, mental wellness, and more.

🔆 This summer, our students will continue their social-emotional learning during our Summer Fun on Wheels program. We can't wait to see what they learn about themselves through activities and support.

This isn't just a picture of a desk, it's an example of the impact your support has on students getting the tools they need to be successful in school. Below is a note from a parent of one of our students who recently received a scholarship for school supplies.

"I just wanted to say THANK YOU so much for all the support and for the amazing opportunity to participate in the scholarship program, in which my son was awarded for the second time, and because of that he was able to get a very much needed desk, chair, Chromebook, book shelves and a few other items! Can’t explain the joy to not only see the huge growth in the educational and learning aspects of my son but to also be able to enjoy the happiness in his eyes to have his own space to keep learning and taking his tutoring sessions that is why I will forever be thankful for your service and your dedication to kids like my son!"

💜 Together we can make a difference 💜

We are always blown away by the dedication and commitment our tutors have for their students.

Selena Nguyen is not only a wonderfully dedicated volunteer tutor, but she also organized a supply drive and rallied her community to donate a beautiful collection of books for students of various ages, along with colorful school supplies.

Thank you, Selena, and all your friends, for this wonderful donation.
