For the parent pumping while their baby is in the NICU: you deserve care, too. 💚

Human milk can provide important benefits for premature babies, including a lower risk of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a serious intestinal disease. Your NICU team will tailor feeding to your baby’s needs.

🍼 Start with support
Ask your NICU lactation team about expressing milk as soon as medically feasible after birth. If you couldn’t start early, you still deserve help.

⏰ Make an individual plan
Frequent expression helps establish milk supply. Many plans aim for around 8–10 sessions in 24 hours. Work with your team on a schedule that considers your recovery and rest.

🤝 Ask for practical help
Get support with a double electric pump, fl**ge fit, comfortable settings, and hand expression. Pumping should not mean enduring pain.

🧼 Follow NICU handling rules
Clean pump parts after every use and sanitize at least daily. Follow your hospital’s specific instructions for labeling, storage, and transport.

If pumping is difficult, your supply is low, or you need to stop, talk with your care team about feeding options and support.

Your milk output does not measure your love. Your wellbeing matters, too.

Formula preparation seems simple—but a few details make a big difference. 🍼💚

This Baby Safety Month, save this guide from Tender Luv Nu-born Care Inc and share it with everyone who prepares your baby’s bottles.

🧼 CLEAN & SANITIZE
• Wash your hands and clean the preparation surface.
• Clean bottles, ni***es, and rings after every use, and let them air-dry completely.
• Sanitize before first use. Daily sanitizing is especially important for babies under 2 months, babies born prematurely, or babies with weakened immune systems.

💧 WATER & MIXING
• Use water from a safe source.
• Measure the water FIRST, then add the exact amount of powder listed on the label. Never add extra water or powder.
• Powdered formula is not sterile. For higher-risk babies, ask your healthcare provider about ready-to-feed formula or extra hot-water preparation precautions.
• Do not assume boiled water should always cool to lukewarm before mixing—higher-risk babies may need powder mixed with very hot water, then cooled safely before feeding.

🌡️ TEMPERATURE
• Formula does not need to be warmed.
• If you warm a bottle, use warm water and keep water away from the ni**le.
• Never microwave formula: it can create hot spots.
• Test a few drops on your inner wrist before feeding. It should feel warm, not hot.

🧊 STORAGE
• Use prepared formula within 2 hours of preparation AND within 1 hour after feeding begins—whichever comes first.
• If you won’t use it right away, refrigerate it immediately and use within 24 hours.
• Discard formula left in the bottle after feeding. Do not refrigerate it for later.
• Store opened powdered formula tightly closed in a cool, dry place—not the refrigerator. Follow the label’s use-by instructions; most containers should be used within 1 month of opening.

Every caregiver deserves clear information. Save this and share it with grandparents, babysitters, and anyone caring for your baby. 💚

Is your baby’s sleep space ready for safer sleep? 🛏️💚

This Baby Safety Month, Tender Luv Nu-born Care Inc is sharing a simple checklist for every nap and every night:

✅ Place baby on their BACK for every sleep.
✅ Use a firm, flat, level mattress in a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play yard—with a fitted sheet only.
✅ Keep pillows, loose blankets, bumpers, and stuffed animals out of the sleep space.
✅ Avoid overheating. Watch for sweating, a hot chest, or flushed skin, and keep baby’s head uncovered.
✅ Share your room—not your bed—for at least the first 6 months. Baby needs their own separate sleep space.

Small steps can help reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths. Share this checklist with everyone who cares for your baby. 💚

Asking for help is not weakness. It is wisdom. 💚

Many of us grew up believing that being strong means doing everything ourselves. Then a baby arrives—and even everyday tasks can feel overwhelming.

You may hear a voice saying, “I should be able to handle this alone.”

You don’t have to.

Whether support comes from a partner, grandparent, friend, chosen family, or postpartum professional, accepting care is an act of love—for yourself and your baby.

Every family’s traditions, needs, and journey are different. Every parent deserves to feel supported, no matter our ethnicity.

At Tender Luv Nu-born Care, we welcome families of every culture, background, ethnicity, and family structure across Los Angeles.

You were never meant to do this alone. 💛

What is one thing someone could take off your plate this week?

The meal train ended weeks ago. But your body is still in recovery mode.
Here's what postpartum nutrition actually looks like beyond the first week — and why it matters for your energy, mood, and milk supply.

Your body is still in intensive recovery mode for months. Here's what it needs most:

IRON — Birth involves blood loss. Iron rebuilds. (Red meat, lentils, spinach, fortified cereals.)
OMEGA-3s — Brain fog and postpartum mood are helped by omega-3s. (Salmon, walnuts, chia seeds.)
CALCIUM + VITAMIN D — Critical for breastfeeding mothers whose stores are depleting. (Dairy, fortified plant milks, sunlight.)
HYDRATION — Breastfeeding requires an extra 16oz of water minimum per day. Dehydration worsens mood, fatigue, and milk supply.
COMPLEX CARBS — Your energy demands are enormous. Don't restrict carbs while postpartum.
PROTEIN — Every meal and snack. Muscle repair, milk production, and hormonal recovery all require adequate protein.

And please: keep taking your prenatal vitamins for at least 6 months postpartum.

Ask Roxanne anything — your September Q&A is open! 🩺💛

PM your questions. We answer every one.

Here are our featured questions this week:

Q: Is it safe to use a Dock-a-Tot for overnight sleep?
A: No. The AAP advises against all in-bed sleepers, infant positioners, and loungers for overnight sleep. Dock-a-Tots are great for supervised awake time — but not for overnight.

Q: My baby only poops every few days. Is that normal?
A: For exclusively breastfed babies after the first few weeks — yes! Breast milk is so efficiently absorbed that very little waste remains. As long as baby is gaining weight and not in distress, infrequent pooping is completely normal.

Q: How do I know if my baby has reflux?
A: Signs include frequent spitting up, arching the back during or after feeds, crying that seems pain-related after eating, and reluctance to feed. Talk to your pediatrician if you're concerned.

Drop your question in the comments below and we'll feature it next week. 👇

You are growing, healing, feeding, soothing — and doing it all on very little sleep. You deserve care too.

5 reminders for today:
Sleep when you can — rest IS healing
Eat a real, nourishing meal
Ask for help. You don't have to do this alone
Step outside for even 10 minutes of fresh air
You matter just as much as your baby does 💛

Save this for the hard days. And share it with a new mama who needs to hear it. 🤍

Every culture has its own postpartum wisdom. And when we share it — everyone benefits.

Around the world, cultures have protected new mothers for generations.

MEXICO — La Cuarentena: 40 days of rest, warming foods, belly binding, full family support.
KOREA — Samshinalmok: 21 days of seaweed soup for healing, rest mandated by the family.
INDIA — Jaappa: 40 days of warming foods, oil massages, care by female elders.
NIGERIA — Omugwo: Grandmother moves in for months, teaches all newborn care, cooks nourishing meals.
NETHERLANDS — Kraamzorg: Professional postpartum home visitors PAID BY INSURANCE for the first 10 days.

The rest of the world figured out that new mothers need professional, sustained care.

America is catching up. And Tender Luv Nu-Born Care is here in the meantime.

We can do better. Share this with every person who needs to understand why postpartum support matters.

Bringing your baby home from the NICU can bring relief, joy, worry—or feelings you haven’t found words for yet. 💚
Every homecoming is different. There’s no set timeline for finding your footing, and you don’t have to figure everything out alone.

🏡 SETTLING IN
Give your family time to adjust. Set boundaries around visitors that work for you, and keep your baby’s discharge instructions and important phone numbers accessible.
Before leaving the hospital, ask your team what to watch for, when to call, and what to do in an emergency.

🍼 FINDING YOUR FEEDING RHYTHM
Follow your baby’s individualized discharge feeding plan. Ask how to respond to hunger cues, whether there’s a maximum time between feeds, and whether your baby needs waking to eat.
If anything is unclear, contact your NICU team or pediatrician. A lactation or feeding professional can provide additional support as appropriate.
Keep any feeding, diaper, or medication records your care team recommends, and follow the plan for appointments and weight checks.

🤝 ACCEPTING PRACTICAL HELP
Choose help that feels useful: meals, laundry, errands, or caring for older children. Anyone helping with your baby should understand the discharge plan and safe-sleep guidance.

💚 CARING FOR YOURSELF
You may feel ready one moment and overwhelmed the next. Your experience doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
If worry, sadness, or overwhelm feels intense or makes daily life difficult, reach out to your healthcare provider. You deserve support, too.

Save this for your homecoming preparations or share it with a NICU family navigating this transition.
