I’ve been asking the question “What is truth?” for most of my life.

It started when I was 15, standing outside an art classroom with a boy I had a tremendous crush on. 😊

Years later, that same question became part of long walks with my best friend. And eventually, it became part of what drew me so deeply to coaching.

Because one of the things I love most about coaching is this:

Coaching does not give people the truth. It helps them uncover their own.

We create the space for people to listen beneath the noise. To discover what they really want. To recognize the voice of the inner critic. To connect with a vision that comes from their own heart rather than someone else’s definition of success.

And then we help them find the courage to live what they discover.

More than 25 years into this work, I still find that incredibly powerful.

One of my favorite things about working with coaches is seeing them take their experience, expertise, and unique way of helping people — and turn it into a coaching business that is truly their own.

Meet Maggie Smith of Vida Holistika. She is a Pain and Injury Recovery Coach and member of the Soul Driven Success Academy.

Maggie works with people who are doing all the “right” things to recover from an injury — physical therapy, appointments, home exercises — but still find themselves stuck.

Because sometimes the missing piece isn’t physical.

It’s the fear. The overwhelm. The second-guessing. The loss of confidence in your own body.

Maggie helps her clients work through those missing pieces so they can move beyond simply wanting their knee, shoulder, or back to feel better.

We make plans as if life is going to cooperate.

And then… life changes.

A family member needs us. We move. Our health changes. A relationship shifts. An unexpected opportunity appears.

I learned early in my coaching career that when life pulls our attention elsewhere, our businesses still need some way to stay connected to us.

That experience changed the way I think about planning.

A good plan isn't one that unfolds perfectly.

It's one that can bend when life changes without losing sight of the vision behind it.

I think of this as a kind of practical magic — the structure and systems that keep us grounded, combined with the flexibility and intuition to recognize when something needs to change.

One of the exercises I ask coaches to do has nothing to do with certifications, marketing strategies, or business plans.

I ask them to look back at their lives.

At the moments that changed them. The things they’ve overcome. The times they lost their way — and found it again.

Because somewhere in those experiences are clues to why you became a coach, who you’re here to serve, and the message you’re here to share.

Your story doesn’t need to be dramatic. It doesn’t need to be perfectly packaged. And you certainly don’t need to share every part of it publicly.

But there may be wisdom in your story that someone else needs to hear.

In my latest blog post, I’m sharing some of my own story and exploring why storytelling is about so much more than marketing.

Sometimes, a story simply lets another person know: I see you. You’re not alone. There is hope.
