On September 21st, BAYAN SoCal mobilized to commemorate the 52 years of people’s resistance against Marcoses fascist Martial Law. We gathered in front of the Philippine Consulate who has exposed to us time and time again, the failures of the Philippine state to address the basic needs of our kababayan.
The issues of trafficking, wage theft, houselessness, surveillance, and racism that the Filipino people experience here in SoCal is not separate from the intensifying economic and political crisis in the Philippines. We uplift the fight for our rights through militant struggle and campaigns like US Out of the Philippines and Fight State Neglect and Plunder while we experience the neglect of both the US and Philippine state in meeting the basic needs of the people!
The fight of our martyrs and victims of Marcoses violent legacy continues on in our struggle for National Democracy and Socialism in the Philippines!

The Filipino people are suffering under the heavy oppression and exploitation imposed on them by the semi-colonial and semi-feudal system. Every day, Filipinos face landlessness, contractualization, displacement, and increasing prices for basic needs. Many Filipinos in Southern California are facing eviction, housing and food insecurity, and wage theft. For example, Juanita residents face homelessness and job insecurity while the L.A. Philippine Consulate nearby does nothing to support them. These are just some examples of the rampant state neglect that Filipinos face as 7 million Filipinos face unemployment and another 7 million face underemployment.
As soon as the masses resist, they are faced with extreme violence from the fascist state forces. The Philippine government is waging a ‘counterinsurgency’ war, which has intensified under the Marcos regime and has resulted in countless war crimes and other violations of International Humanitarian Law committed by state forces. The US-Marcos alliance also has a history of abducting activists and causing fascist violence, which is only rising due to the proposal of the Philippines Enhanced Resistance Act (PERA), which is allocating 500 million dollars to go towards militarization.
There has been an extreme increase in disappearances lately, from youth activists like Vladimir Maro, a migrant rights activist, to environmental and indigenous rights activist Felix Salaveria Jr. and many more going missing because of state forces. Due to the extreme repression of activists, we see that de facto martial law persists under Bongbong Marcos Jr., and that history is repeating itself as it once did with Ferdinand Marcos Jr. !
We invite you to continue fighting alongside BAYAN, Malaya, and allies all over Southern California on Saturday, September 21st, to protest the 52nd anniversary of Ferdinand Marcos’ Declaration of Martial Law in 1972 and commemorate the lives that have been lost and fight against the ongoing repression and violence happening today!

Kung di tayo kikibo, sino ang kikibo? Kung hindi tayo kikilos, sino ang kikilos? Kung hindi ngayon, kailan pa?
If we don’t speak up, who will? If we don’t take action, who will? If not now, then when?
Mark your calendars for August 26 when Makabayan’s full senatorial slate will be announced!

US Out of Korea! US Out of Philippines!
US Out of the Asia-Pacific!
BAYAN SoCal joined Nodutdol on Thursday, August 15 to say No to Nuclear War Games. As overseas Filipinos fighting for national sovereignty in the Philippines, we hold steadfast solidarity with the Korean national liberation struggle in the joint fight against U.S. Imperialism!
The U.S. continues to stoke the fires of inter-imperialist war against its rival China, seeking to strengthen its hold over the Philippines and Korea as strongholds of U.S. militarism in the Asia-Pacific. Just as how the U.S. and South Korea are currently conducting the Ulchi Freedom Shield Exercises, provoking nuclear war, the Filipino masses also experience the ramp up of U.S. military presence with hundreds of war games conducted on our air, sea, and land: the largest-ever Balikatan exercises in May that South Korea attended as an observer, the biannual KAMANDAG exercises participated in by South Korea, and more. The Philippine and South Korean States dominated by the local ruling classes and puppeted by the US, are lining their pockets by prioritizing war and militarization over the needs of our peoples and ultimately home where we won’t be separated or displaced.
However, as long as the Philippine and Korean states have colluded with U.S. Imperialism, the Filipino and Korean masses have long been united in resistance - from opposing Japanese occupation during WWII, to U.S.-backed dictatorships in the 60s - 80s, to U.S. militarism and puppet presidents today. Continue the fight and join BAYAN and Nodutdol! Struggle for national liberation against heightening U.S. militarization and imperialism in the Asia-Pacific!

Pass the PHRA! During the week of August 4th to August 10th, BAYAN USA Southern California, along with ICHRP organizations, Malaya Movement, and Kabataan Alliance in Southern California hosted a week of action from August 5 to August 9 in order to oppose the ramping up of US militarization in the Philippines. With the 5th anniversary of the assassination attempt on Brandon Lee’s life on August 6, the addition of $500 million to the Philippine Enhanced Resilience Act (PERA) bill, and the destruction caused in the Philippines by Typhoon Carina, we are once again reminded that we must continue to fight against war provocation and imperialism, and to fight FOR the dignity and rights of our people back home.
We call on other Filipinos and those who support the genuine freedom, sovereignty, and self-determination of the Filipino people and join BAYAN USA Southern California and our chapters in continuing to raise our collective consciousness, organize, and mobilize to Reject PERA! Pass the PHRA! And build a progressive mass movement of Filipinos from the belly of the imperialist beast! Join the fight for national democracy in the Philippines!

SOCAL UNITY CALL - NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST US MILITARY AID TO THE PHILIPPINES
Register: tinyurl.comSC731NDOA
Monday 7/29, 7:30-9:00PM
On July 30th, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken & Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will be holding a 2+2 ministerial meeting in Manila with PH Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo and Secretary of National Defense Gilbert Teodoro. Reports indicate the 2+2 meeting will: develop the ‘roadmap” to strengthen US-PH defense priorities and to “modernize” the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and to announce an additional $500 million of Foreign Military Financing to the PH. This is part of an onslaught of US schemes and legislation to provoke war against China and enhance the counterinsurgency responsible for war crimes in the PH.
Recently, ICHRP-US, Malaya Movement USA, Kabataan Alliance & BAYAN USA joined together to discuss how we can ramp up our fight against the increased war provocations of the US and increased militarization of the Philippines. We invite you to join the calls for an indignation rally on July 31st and get involved in SoCal’s National Day of Action planning!
End US War Provocations: Blinken-Austin Out of the Philippines!

On July 21, 2024 BAYAN USA Southern California along with progressive Filipinos and allies mounted a People’s State of the Nation Address action at the Los Angeles Philippine Consulate, to protest Marcos Jr’s lies at his 3rd State of the Nation Address and share the true realities of the Filipino people . Over 200 attendees united under the banner of“Soberanya, kabuhayan, serbisyo, at karapatan – ipaglaban! Singilin at panagutin ang rehimeng US-Marcos! ”(Fight for sovereignty, livelihood, services, and rights! Charge and hold the US-Marcos regime accountable!) especially as the US-puppeted Marcos Regime ramps up the sell-out of the Philippines and Filipino people.
From the Housing for Juanita campaign, the fights for workers rights in the service and health industries, the struggle of indigenous people and peasants in the Philippines, US military violence and destruction, and the struggle for national liberation across the world, our 2024 PSONA program opposed the inaccurate and incomplete SONA that the Filipino government delivers yearly.
In the face of foreign and local opressors and wherever Filipinos are forcibly displaced, we will continue to struggle for freedom, sovereignty, and democracy, and for a future where we can all return home. Join the fight for genuine change against the US-Marcos regime! Join a BAYAN organization, build a national democratic organization, and join the fight for national democracy!
Atin ang Pinas! US out of the Philippines! China, hands off!
US out of the Philippines! US out of everywhere!
Junk all unequal military agreements! Junk EDCA! Junk VFA! Junk MDT!
Philippines is not for sale! Defend Philippine Sovereignty!

Labanan ang kapabayaan at pandarambong ng estado! (Fight state neglect and plunder!)
Sahod itaas! Presyo ibaba! (Raise wages! Lower prices!)
Trabaho sa Pinas, hindi sa labas! (Jobs in the Philippines, not abroad!)

TOMMOROW is PSONA!
Join us Sunday, July 21st at 4pm TOMMOROW to come rally and march with BAYAN, Malaya Movement, and Kabataan Alliance, Migrante, and many more to the Los Angeles Philippine Consulate, and address concerns with the Philippine government for poor services to Filipino nationals in SoCal, and to debunk the administration's lies.
We will be speaking up about the worsened situation of the Filipino people and the lies of Marcos’ third State of the Nation Address. As both the United States and China escalate towards their imperialist war, the Philippines and the Filipino people are caught in the middle. Our people being displaced and our natural resources being exploited as a result. Marcos has failed to acknowledge the realities of the people's suffering from poverty, landlessess, and mass unemployment. His actions do not reflect the interests and needs of the people, instead, they align with the interests of U.S. imperialist powers and the local ruling class.
This year our annual People's State of the Union Address (PSONA) is a call to action led by Filipino organizers, students, and local community members to expose and oppose the inaccurate and incomplete SONA that the Filipino government delivers yearly. It is our platform to protest the worsening conditions in the PH and call for genuine democracy!
Let’s confront “Bongbong” Marcos for selling out the Filipino people at home and Filipinos overseas! U.S and China Out!
Fight for services, livelihood, sovereignty and rights! Hold the US-Marcos regime accountable! Please RSVP at: tinyurl.com/LAPSONA2024
Serbisyo, kabuhayan, soberanya, at karapatan, ipaglaban! Singilin at panagutin ang rehimeng US-Marcos!
