One year.
Today marks one year since Angie went home to Heaven.
It’s strange…
Part of me feels like it happened yesterday, while another part looks at everything that has happened over these last 365 days and realizes just how much life has continued moving.
And, maybe that’s one of the biggest things I’ve learned this year…
Moving forward is not the same thing as moving on.
I’m not moving on from Angie. I don’t want to.
She was my wife, my confidant, my first true love, and the mother of our children. We had laughter, arguments, adventures, struggles, victories, and all the ordinary moments that make up a real life together.
I loved her then.
I love her now.
And, I always will.
But, we’re still here…
So, we keep living.
The kids are doing well, building their lives and chasing new opportunities. I’m in the fourth class of my master’s program and still holding on to straight A’s. 😏 I’m back at East, continuing another chapter of my career.
And, apparently I needed a reminder that I’m not invincible.
Two weeks in the hospital, two surgeries, and a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis later… I’m healing, taking better care of myself, and paying attention to things I should have paid attention to years ago.
And yes, Angie… you kept telling me to go to the doctor.
You were right.
There. I said it publicly. 😂💜
Most importantly, this past year reminded me how blessed we are by the people around us.
To everyone who prayed, called, texted, visited, helped financially, brought food, checked on the kids, checked on me, offered a hug, shared words of encouragement, or simply reminded us that we weren’t alone…
Thank you! Truly! 💜
I still miss her every day. But, grief and gratitude can occupy the same space.
I can miss her, and still laugh.
Remember yesterday without living there.
Love what we had while embracing what comes next.
There is still life to live.
So, today I remember the love we shared, and I look forward with hope.
Not moving on.
Moving forward.
Still healing.
Still growing.
Still laughing.
Still loving.
Still living.
Angie, I love you. Present tense. 💜
