Plan, execute, and showcase projects that propel your career forward.

With a curriculum designed by top freelancers in collaboration with top academics, Art of Freelance is a program that helps creatives dream big and identify broad goals, discover the actionable projects that will get them there, and then plan and execute those projects with the help of mentors and a small cohort of other freelancers. In other words, we will help you identify which mountain you want to climb, and then we will provide the roadmap and guidance to get you to the top.

Other Sick in the Time of Covid: 1) Coinciding with Shelter in Place in San Francisco in March 2020, my husband fell mysteriously and gravely ill. Within a week, he was bedridden, riddled with pain and unable to move his upper torso. My daughter (10), an only child, navigated her loneliness and worry for her father and for the world outside during this dizzying 10 weeks to diagnosis. Making these images helped me chart a path forward —considering the soul of care as a partner, a mother and an artist.

Hellooooo out there. My name is Katherine Emery. I love palindromes and the smell of tomatoes in early summer. 28 days ago I lived in San Francisco. Today I live on an island in Maine. The invited me to share my photo project—Other Sick in the Time of Covid—created in the Spring of 2020. I said yes—which is a direct result of the program itself. I have learned that I cannot create, thrive, nor live, in a vacuum.
Before I said yes, though, I hesitated because the project I created between early March to end of May 2020 feels myopic, merely two months later. I work these days —and every day—to see and engage outside of my narrow perspective. So I thank you for taking the time to look into mine. Take my hand, it’s warm.

-Katherine

Ps. Thank you ever and always for your grace and vigor as our cohort leader.

Good morning world! How’s everyone feeling today? I’m Azure, () taking over the Art of Freelance Instagram. I’m a writer, director, photographer and editor with a passion for connecting people through storytelling.

A lot of my inspiration comes from dreams, memories, conversations and emotions. I’m also fascinated by people. I love how we express ourselves, how we feel and desire, and how we navigate though life. I’m also inspired by nature and how the cycles and rhythms in nature are mirrored in us.

Happy 4th everyone! My name is Jeremy Jackson on my last day of the IG takeover.

I would like to share a project near and dear to my heart that I collaborated on with Jordan Jennings.

7th and Los Angeles is a portrait project that features over 70 people we met within a one-block radius of our seventh-floor studio on Los Angeles street between 6th and 7th. The subjects are a cross-section of this rapidly-gentrifying Downtown commerce district and I’m very proud of the diversity we were able to capture and celebrate in this project.

Hope you all have a great holiday! @ Los Angeles, California

Hi everyone! My name is Jeremy Jackson and I’m a photographer based in Los Angeles. Day 2 of my Instagram takeover.

I’ve always loved photographing dancers and when the pandemic hit, I brainstormed ways I could still be creative and capture dancer’s emotions through their movements during this quarantine period. I photographed them with FaceTime while the dancers were at home and then used the photos to create a collage of abstract shapes and symbols. I photographed 10 dancers in 4 cities across the US.

I created this series while taking the Art of Freelance workshop. I had no ideas of what I would create when I first signed up but knowing I had a group to hold me accountable and a showcase as a final goal to present a project was a huge help for me in seeing a project through to completion. @ Los Angeles, California

AOF ALUMNI
Written by : I created this book for our NEXT GENERATION of children. I believe in teaching children real life concepts. I was inspired to create this type of book because it provides some of the tools and knowledge required in understanding how to make a difference in your community. When you give children the power to know that their voice can be heard, it opens the door for more options and opportunities for us all.
