Had a wonderful time teaching my Improv Comedy Summer Camp at The Bolles School last week!

In the documentary 49 Up, Neil Hughes shares a poignant story about a butterfly: “I see that life comes once, and it’s quite short. You have to appreciate what’s good in it…I was just sunbathing and a butterfly landed quite close to me. It had beautiful wings, with deep red colors, and white sort-of circles on them… these creatures don’t last very long. But it landed very close to me, it didn’t seem frightened. It just seemed delighted opening and closing its wings, and just actually being beautiful for that period of time, enjoying the sunshine. Perhaps there isn’t actually any more to life than that, and just being what you are.”

Improv is like this. Most people don’t do Improv for where it’s going to get them. They just do it because it’s fun. You get to flap your wings and show off your colors and your one-of-a-kind patterns. You just be who you are. And sometimes you can surprise yourself. Improv is one of the few places where this is encouraged and you feel safe to just be who you are.

I feel so fortunate to teach this to kids every day. And to see a lot of amazing butterflies.

Our Improv Comedy Summer Camp at The Bolles School San Jose Campus in Jacksonville starts July 21, 2025, and it's the perfect place for kids 11-15 to shine! Through hilarious Improv games and team-building activities, campers will develop quick thinking, public speaking skills, and lifelong friendships in a supportive environment.

When: Starts July 21, 2025

Where: The Bolles School San Jose Campus, 7400 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32217

Time: Half-Day (9am-Noon) or Full-Day (9am-4pm) options.
