Through our days at the fair we deepen our long-term relationships with galleries and artists, and form new connections for future collaborations.⁠

Obey Giant - The Art of Shepard Fairey
always says it so beautifully
I created this Wake Up! piece originally in 2017 as an urgent plea for all of us to activate our moral compasses and speak up. For those who have been silent, it is time to open our eyes, our minds, and speak out for human rights and human dignity.

This year, I was asked to update the piece to support a grassroots movement of educators, lawyers, artists, and concerned citizens who seek to warn against the rising threat of authoritarianism and reclaim the word “woke” from distortion and restore its historic meaning as a patriotic call to resistance and action: to stay alert, informed, and defend democracy.

Its such a pleasure to work with the talented artist Karen Sikie! Her intricate paper mosaic, on a uniquely shaped panel, served as the focal point for Marbé Designs’ stunning window display at The Luxury Kitchen in collaboration with Source Art for last year’s Legends.⁠ The visual journey captured the lively spirit of the Amazon while paying homage to Marbé’s Spanish and Venezuelan roots; it’s a great example of how our collaborations with designers, artists and fabricators enhance projects. ⁠

Sikie’s collage, Artemis, 70 x 30”, poised in-flight, with vibrant colors and beautiful patterns, has been appreciated during her extended stay in The Luxury Kitchen’s window over the past year, but is now anticipating a new home. It will make a striking statement in a lobby, theme related commercial space or any design that craves bold color.⁠

Karen Sikie’s artwork comes to life through her paper mosaic technique, a specialized form of collage. She begins each collage with a detailed drawing, which acts as a map or template for the hand-cut shapes she applies to the surface. Karen uses all types of papers, some hand-painted. Her work is an expression of the beauty, energy, rhythms, and patterns of the natural world.⁠

We were excited to procure a stunning work by for clients of ours. This piece perfectly complements a stunning diptych by Rebecca () as well as the overall design by . ⁠ ⁠

Scrolling, you can see multiple paintings we considered by Bobbie Burgers and photo renderings we created to visualize the work in situ and support the decision-making process.⁠
⁠
Bobbie Burgers’ sweeping gestural strokes have come to define her work. In recent years, Burgers has moved away from realistic depictions of florals, pushing her paintings towards abstraction. After working with collage, Burgers began applying thicker layers of paint onto her canvas works, building them up in places to create three-dimensional textural difference. She moves between oil sticks, spray paint, acrylic paint, and pastels, playing with their viscosities by watering them down or leaving them thick. ⁠

We are hopeful that Bobbie Burgers’ abstracted brushwork will bring joy to our client for years to come. ⁠

The panels discussions and events hosted during LA Design created wonderful opportunities to dive into the world and minds of designers, architects and other design professionals.

We particularly loved the dynamic conversation between Pam Shamshiri and Mayer Rus, exploring how today’s most visionary designers are moving beyond conventional labels. Together, they discussed how to create wholly original, deeply personal environments that transcend categorization, and examined how history, memory, and cultural reference can be used to enrich contemporary design, resulting in spaces that are defined by meaning, nuance, and narrative.⁠

We also enjoyed the generational dialogue between Nancy Meyer and her daughters, Hallie Meyers-Shyer and Annie Meyers-Shyer, on storytelling and how interiors quietly shape the emotional temperature of a film.

LA Legends always delivers a wonderful platform for connecting with some of the best designers in the field, exchange ideas, sharing of stories, and forging new relationships, creating an inspiring atmosphere that fosters growth and collaboration.⁠

Wonderful conversation at our Art Inspiring Design panel during LA Legends this past week at the Michael-Cleary Showroom! Source Art’s founder, MaryLinda Moss, led this insightful conversation between gallerists Elizabeth East of L.A. Louver, Thomas Kelly of Sean Kelly Gallery, and artists Rebecca Campbell, Brian Rochefort and Fatemeh Burnes.⁠ All were so engaged, panelists and viewers, that we are now considering bringing the design and art communities together for an ongoing series.⁠

Today, we honor the memory of Mel Bochner (1940-2025). ⁠
⁠
As a trailblazing Conceptual Artist who radically reimagined art-making, Bochner’s pictorial and theoretical influence will challenge and inspire artists now and for generations to come. ⁠
⁠
We are honored to share our latest acquisition, an incredibly special piece, Blah Blah Blah. Last month, just after his passing, we procured the work while at Frieze, from Marc Selwyn Fine Art. Though diminutive in size, this 2009 monoprint has taken on a poignant, renewed meaning and historical significance.⁠ A powerful piece of his immortal legacy. ⁠

We are incredibly grateful for galleries such as for how the commitment they make in service of the artists they represent, benefits us all. ⁠

We’ve had the pleasure of procuring other pieces in Bochner’s oeuvre as well, from the gorgeous 7 color silk screen, “Oh Well- Red,” (slides 4-6) to the striking oil on velvet, “Head Honcho” (slides 7-8). Both works bring a vibrancy and depth to the designs of the exquisite interiors they inhabit. ⁠ ⁠

We had the pleasure of attending Black in Every Color, Art in Every Form during LA Art Fair week. Such a powerful collection of impactful, intriguing work.⁠
⁠
Launched with The Migration at Tola (The Other LA) in New Orleans, Black in Every Color continued in Los Angeles for its third annual edition, featuring The Movement—a gathering of artists whose work embodies cultural stewardship and a collective call to action in the fine art space. The three-day exhibition at The LINE Hotel in Koreatown featured a convergence of installations and performances that celebrate the multifaceted expressions of Black artistry. This year’s exhibition was a benefit, raising funds to amplify and connect the diaspora through the arts. As Black culture continues to shape the world, this initiative creates space for meaningful dialogue, creative expression, and cultural preservation.⁠

Co-curated by Nakeyta Moore of ArtloudLA, this initiative builds direct support for Black artists, expands Black in Every Color’s global reach, and strengthens Tola as a regenerative space for artistic incubation and collaboration. We are endlessly proud of Nakeyta (yes, a recent team member of ) and cannot wait to see more of what she does!⁠

'I wanted the body to be seen as a woman experiences herself, rather than through the reflection of the mirror or other's eyes.' - Joan Semmel ❤️

American artist Joan Semmel's oil painting 'Secret Spaces' 1976 reclaims the n**e. Semmel's painting shows her n**e body abstracted and viewed from above; the right breast flattened, the upper torso shortened, and the limbs appearing as overlapping shapes, rather than a coherent whole. The texture of the artist’s flesh and the hairs on her arm are painted with fine brushstrokes, and the contours of her form – enlarged and cropped within the frame – begin to resemble a rolling landscape. Semmel subverts the stereotype of n**e portraits of women painted by men: 'I wanted to subvert this tradition from within.'

We loved so many of the works at Felix this year, we couldn’t keep it to just one post…. Swipe through for some more of the pieces we fell in love with. ⁠

Held in the cabanas surrounding the Roosevelt Hotel’s pool, as well as on the 11th and 12th floors of the tower, Felix fosters intimate experiences through the exploration of more private gallery rooms or “suites.” The fair always inspires conversation, collaboration, and community, and a closeness to its presentation of new, exciting work. ⁠
