SeaWorld Protest 04/16/2017

Our SeaWorld Demo next to Tommy Trojan was very successful. We gave out all 50 "SeaWorld Sucks" t-shirts and engaged passerby in discussion about why they should boycott SeaWorld this summer.

SeaWorld recently ended its breeding program, but they've refused to release the 29 orcas left into sanctuaries. For the past 50 years these orcas, who swim up to 100 miles per day in the wild, have been held captive in tiny, concrete tanks the size of bathtubs (relative to their size). They're given anti-anxiety drugs to deal with the endless monotony of swimming in small circles and they break their teeth chewing on the metal bars and concrete sides of their tanks. This animal abuse is for the sake of human entertainment; the orcas are forced to perform tricks for tourists day in and day out.

By not going to SeaWorld this summer, their ticket sales will continue to plummet, and they'll be pressured to release the 29 orcas into sanctuaries. Eventually, SeaWorld will be forced to shutdown, just like the outdated Ringling Bros. Circus did earlier this year. For more information about SeaWorld please watch the documentary, Blackfish!
